Clearly this is a money grab fight with lil risk for Oscar & Canelo. And notice I use Oscar's name & not just Canelo cuz nowadays boxing is more of a business than a sport at the elite level in many ways. I think Canelo would fight anyone, but he's entrusting Oscar (as most fighters do with their promoter &/or manager) to guild his career to its maximum upside for both parties.
There are very few guys thinking legacy or fighting the best available guy these days in the boxing business. Many cats love to criticize the fighter over this stuff, but I believe its finally a reality that treating boxing like a business has trickled down to the fighter who is now thinking more like the promoter, the alphabet groups & the networks have done for decades. And nothing is changing until the structure of the sport is changed to a more fan friendly model like most sports have undertaken with all the best athletes of said sport under one umbrella making an elite league where all the best boxers can fight each other at any time without so many people needing to agree to make it happen.
