Agreed Edward. I usually dislike all the Haymon fighters because they duck, and getting fed Spence the last two years on TV hearing he's the greatest thing ever when he's not fighting anyone competitive has already made me dislike Spence. Also apparently he's promoted by Floyd or something so just for the sake of boxing, I kind of have to hope Spence doesn't become the face of boxing because that would be another nightmare for the sport with Floyd telling him not to fight anyone good.
So, I actually have started out anti-Spence for those reasons, but it's talk like this that, if he backs it up, will make me a fan. Just like I disliked hypejob Broner when he was at 135 talking smack fighting smaller dudes, but after he took a loss and they stopped protecting him, he started calling out Matthysse (a fight that should have happened smh) and other dangerous guys so I came to like him. I just don't like protected fighters who talk big but don't fight the best. Once they're no longer protected, then they can talk all they want, because they're fighting the best, so it's all good.
That's why I like Mcgregor, and if Floyd had simply given fans the best fights, I wouldn't have minded his talk so much either. Floyd is actually charismatic at times when he's not full of ****, the problem is he didn't deliver the best fights, he ducked the megafight for years, and he's more aggressive fighting outside the ring than inside the ring, even with women, so the total package is impossible to support unless you're racially biased. But Spence I could respect if he actually fights Thurman next year, and Crawford in 2018.
I don't really like or dislike fighters based on their associations, promoters, etc., but more so what they do in the ring, against whom, and how that stacks up with their mouths (if they are doing a bunch of bragging). I could understand being skeptical of Spence, but I haven't seen a reason to dislike him as a boxer... yet.
I disagree to a degree about Floyd. His out-of-ring problems are definitely deplorable and don't give many much reason to like him. However, he is an ATG in the ring and throughout the course of his career, he has the level of opposition to support that, with or without a prime Manny fight. On a personal level, I don't much care for him. In boxing, I have to tip my hat to him... I'm not trying to get into a Floyd debate though. LOL. I'd like to keep it about Spence if possible.
Spence has a good future. He should call out Canelo. Thats the biggest payday for him. Forget PAC, he's only gonna fight top rank bums.
He just named Thurman, Brook, Garcia, and Pac. Why in the Hell would he move up to 154 to fight Canelo? Those are all big names. Money can be made with the accumulation of those three fights. Fighting Canelo and getting KO'd destroys his marketability.
Great fights especially Thurman...Garcia does bring it when he's the underdog, but Thurman is Spence's real test..Arum has turned Crawford into a star filling arenas in Omaha, and you can rest assure he won't sacrifice Pac to a fighter who can beat him unless it's one of his own fighters, and that will be Terrence..
Now we're talking. If he actually backs up his talk, unlike other Haymon fighters, he could win a new fan in me the way JRoc did by also bucking the Haymon trend and demanding the Charlo fight.
The Brook fight has to happen in the UK though. And given Spence's size, and the sacrifice Brook made to dare to be great and go up vs GGG, if Spence is going to fight him his first fight back, they should do it at a 150 catch weight. It's bad form to make a guy come down from 160 to 147 in one fight when you're plenty big for 154 yourself. Do it where they're both comfortable, at 150. Of course the title wouldn't be on the line at 150 which is the problem... but it would be a much better fight at 150. They'd have more energy.
The fight should definitely be in the U.K. though. Sick of seeing all these corrupt decisions in the U.S. Time to give the U.K. a shot. GGG went to the U.K. to fight Brook, even though GGG is a bigger name than Spence (for now, so just relax), so Spence should do the same.
Thurman is going to be the true test for Spence though. I really do think at 147, Crawford, Thurman, and Spence are a not above the rest. And I include Thurman in that. People think he's not as good because he's not as fluid as Crawford or Spence, which is true, but he's a bigger puncher than Crawford anyway, and stronger than Crawford, so I put him up there. Those guys should all fight, and Mikey Garcia should get in that mix too.
I think Spence has said that he doesn't care where the fight is happening and neither do I as long as the fight happens. I think you are overreacting to the corrupt decisions of the US, but I may be biased since I'm American... Judging could always be better, but the conspiracy theories get out of hand.
More importantly, it shouldn't be done at a catchweight whatsoever. Brook is getting wayy too much love for going up to fight GGG. It was a money fight that he knew his stock would only go up by being in, win or lose. The burden shouldn't be on Spence to make it more comfortable for the 147 champ to fight at 147. Spence wants the IBF title, so he can get the other fights at 147 as he mentioned. Fighting Brook at 150 does nothing to help him reach those goals. He can fight Brook later if that's the case. If Brook is having such a problem getting down in weight, he should move up and fight people his own size (or at least closer to it).
It looks like 147 is finally started to heat up though. I'm glad to see any of these cats mix it up. It's been too long in the making.
