No, and I can prove it.

Golovkin Wade -> total purse 2.5 millions. Mismatch. Total ratings a bit above 1 million. So it kinda generated income.

Jacobs Quillin -> total purse 3 millions. Fair match. Total ratings 300k. Total loss of money. Plus now Jacobs thinks he's worth millions.

They are either gonna drop the price or put cards on worth the consumers' money.

        Both were overpaid.

HBO paying $2.5 mil for a mismatch is ridiculous, it's left HBO with no money to pay for a decent opponent. Golovkin will want more for a riskier fight and the opponent will see what Golovkin is getting and demand more himself. Forcing fights to PPV. The networks have created the problem themselves overpaying for fights.

            Man, be fair.

Golovkin vs Wade sold 17500 seats. Generated 1+ million ratings.

Golovkin earned his money, he generates it. At least that's what I see.

On the other hand Jacobs vs Quillin sold 8000 seats and had 300k ratings. Absolutely poor compared to what Golovkin did, in which the total purse was even lower than the Jacobs fight.

Edit: Golovkin Wade generated the biggest rating for HBO at 1.3M+ viewers https://goo.gl/bEj0Ww

You're comparing Golovkin to one of the worse if not the worst case of fighters being overpaid. It's not just Golovkin it's other fighters getting overpaid too including Ward. When the only fights networks can afford are mismatches and all the quality fights cost $70 it's going to hurt boxing.

I see your point of Golovkin being overpaid in mismatches but when you see his ratings and that he sells out every arena he fights in that tells you he might be a little overpaid but not much if any.

And if you look at Golovkin vs Brook for example, you labeled it as a mismatch but it still sold about 600k according to rumous Main reason is that it was a $24 PPV. In the UK they are smarter when it comes to PPV. That fight sold well enough to pay them their 3-5 million dollar purses, and it was a "mismatch".

they should have PPV's at $24.99 and up, they shouldn't place fights like Crawford/Postol at $69.99, I bet it wouldn't crack 800K viewers on regular HBO

The UK is an entirely different market. UK fans will happily pay for mismatches involving UK fighters that's why we are getting Haye-Bellew on PPV and it sold out in less than a minute.

How and when did they decide that PPVs should be $70 frigging bucks??

It's like they went into the meeting room and asked themselves what is the most absurd number that they can get away with

$70 bucks for a 4 hour card, in which you're lucky if 2 of the fights are even worth watching, is f**king insane
