Comments Thread For: Freddie Roach Not Convinced Ward-Kovalev Rematch Will Happen

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is not convinced that a rematch will happen between light heavyweights Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev. Last month at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Ward (31-0, 15KOs) survived a knockdown in the second round to win a close twelve round unanimous decision over Kovalev (30-1-1, 26KOs) to capture the WBA, IBF, WBO world titles.

It better. Boxing's credibility cannot handle first the May-Pac disaster, then the Kovalev-Ward robbery, and then Ward even ducking the rematch... the sport would just become a total joke at that point. I mean, even more than right now.

I'd say the Kovalev-Ward rematch is probably the most important fight in boxing, for its credibility, and the history of the sport. By far it's not the biggest financial fight, but it's the most important right now.

It's no mystery why kovalev faded in the fight. Both Sanchez and Jackson said he is difficult to train. Jackson has to trick him to learn moves because he thinks he knows it all. So he runs when he wants goes hard when he wants thinks he's smarter than everyone slacks off there you go.

Whether or not they rematch does nothing in terms of credibility. The general public doesn't even know who Andre Ward or Sergey Kovalev are. Not to mention boxing's credibility is really as low as it gets right now, and has been for some time.

I want the rematch as much as the next guy but it really won't affect the sport's credibility one way or the other.

Does it make you sleep better at night knowing that Ward got a christmas present by american judges?

he didn't say it won't happen because Ward is scared..he said money will be an issue. don't people read the article before commenting. and people acting all desperate like they wanted the rematch to be signed and announced the very next day after the fight..chill tf out.
