Does boxing need more fighters like Sergey Kovalev or like Andre Ward?

Boxers' popularity is too volatile for that. Showtime bet on Mayweather-Pacquiao being one of those six fights and it paid off. Having guarantees for the year set ahead of time is too risky for both the network and the fighter. Honestly I think that could lead to more contract disputes and less activity or more soft touches to start every year then a big fight to end to try to boost your stock before negotiations for next year

But I wouldn't mind if a fighter got a soft touches, but ended the year with one or two big fights.

Honestly, if Thurman went the year fighting Garcia and Porter rematch, would you mind if his 3rd fight was a soft touch?

Boxing needs both fighters but fans would like to see one (Ward) fight a bit more. We need fighters that actually fight at least once a year.
