Maybe boxing needs guys like Ward, but what it definitely needs is good competitive fights between A level fighters and an improved ranking system, without over 70 championships, including Gold, Silver, Regular, Interim and Super.
What boxing doesn't need are fan boy writers, who don't call people on their bs or years like
2016, where top guys refused to step up.
I like boxing but every day it's getting harder to be a fan of the sport.

What boxing needs is more champions like Kovalev, who will defend his title against anybody without demanding more money than the income from the fight justifies.
Demanding more money doesn't necessarily mean your being "overpaid", could mean that a boxer is getting what they should get leaving less room for greedy promoters and execs in boxing to overtake.
Trust and believe, if the monies generated by this fight didn't justify, or couldn't cover the fighters salaries, there would be no fight.
Let's not forget how much money is hidden from boxers by greedy execs, promoters and the rest of boxings upper echelon.
Haymon is the perfect example of this. People who constantly say he's gonna fail, besides fans, are the ones who are constantly trying to convince fighters that the hidden money doesn't exist so "they" can pocket it.
This is why Danny Garcia said he never made over 10k in any fight till he got with Haymon, then he started having million dollar fight purses.
DONT BLAME WARD CAUSE KOV HASNT REACHED THIS LEVEL OF BUSINESS ACUMEN YET. To Kovs credit, he is a foreigner. But if a fighter is still accepting bird feed at Kovelev's level it should not be misconstrued that it's because he's such a noble guy, rather its because he's ill advised.Last edited by SugarRaRobinson; 11-18-2016, 09:33 AM.

Personality aside, they have to be able to fight, which is what Ward does best. Outside of his skill level I wouldn't say there's anything about Andre Ward that boxing NEEDS. If the author's suggesting that we need more boxers who just show up and fight, there are plenty of those, but are they worth watching if they don't have the skill to compete?
The same way boxing needs a mix of styles, it also needs a mix of personalities. Without the Broner's of the world, we wouldn't appreciate the subdued athletes of the world. If 100% of the athletes were reserved it would be less interesting. Look at how many articles were made on Mayweather just this week. I think we all need to be honest and not pretend the buffoonery is never entertaining. You mean to tell me you're just as interested in Thurman vs Garcia with no trash talk from either fighter or Angel Garcia.
The reason we're able to look at Ward as a breath of fresh air is because he's an extremely skilled, humble, black fighter. Too many of those and Ward becomes ordinary.

Ggg brook was a terrible fight. I mean it was somewhat exciting but the ending was foreseen just like the khan canelo fight. People forget khan was out boxing canelo too until he ate that sledgehammer. Glad you enjoyed it tho

Brook took more flush shots from GGG than anybody else I've seen, except maybe Lemieux, over the course of their fight, and he didn't go down or get discouraged, despite not being able see properly for the last couple of rounds.
I actually think it was lucky for him that his eye socket got broke, or he would have still been in there going toe to toe for another 5 rounds, before GGG's strength and power wore him down, and that might have been worse for Kel's health, in the long term, than a fractured orbital bone.Last edited by kafkod; 11-18-2016, 10:24 AM.
