Somehow this forum started talking about GGG vs. Canelo happening or not... At this point, they can wake me up when they actually get it cracking... I'm glad that Ward came out and said his point of moving up was because GGG didn't want it. Overall, I think it didn't make sense for both fighters at any given time, but GGG's team hasn't done GGG any favors with all the trash talk and it appears they have been stretching the truth. A bunch of people have been coming out saying that GGG should fight Ward and it seems like Ward was actually trying to make the fight happen, but GGG and his team didn't want it. Only way this fight happens now is if Ward loses bad to Kov. With a win, there are a fresh batch of LHW he can go after that appeal to me more than a GGG fight (who everyone keeps saying is a small MW). I can't believe there are so many people thinking Ward ducked GGG to fight Kov. That makes no sense.

But everybody knew that Canelo was going to vacate the WBC belt instead of honouring his pledge?

      Yeah right.
Admittedly I didn't think he would vacate but I thought the WBC would delay it themselves but when he signed to fight Khan despite the wealth of middleweight options he had that should have told you and anyone who wasn't living in fantasy land he wasn't planning to fight Golovkin next..... so yeah right indeed.

Ward took a couple of tune-ups at 175 before targeting the big dog, which was the smart thing to do to settle into the weight.

If GGG moved to 168 to fight Ward previously, he would have been equally smart to do the same thing, taking fights with lesser accomplished 168'ers like Ramirez and maybe one other before taking on Ward.

GGG's camp basically said they would go straight into it if there were a catch-weight of 164, which would even the field for both fighters, but Ward knew his weight was going up, not down, and 164 would have been too much of a stretch for him.

Now that Ward is 175, its unlikely we will see him at 168 again - maybe, but meantime he's got the 175 weight-class to crack, while GGG is still on a mission to be unified at 160, so can't mess with his weight too much as he needs to do his mandatories at 160 while waiting for Saunders to decide who to sell his belt to.

Ward saying the ship has sailed on GGG sounds like a complete common-sense, factual statement to me given their respective weight restrictions.

One GGG has achieved his unification goal (if Saunders ever fights again making it possible..) then for sure he will move up to 168, and as there is no real stand-out 168 fighter right now (like Ward was), expect him to take on whoever at 168 is willing to fight him.

At that point it depends what he looks like at 168 before considering going up another notch to take on the 175 division.

As for Khan and Brook jumping weight classes and 'so why can't GGG', Khan went in expecting to lose that fight, but financially it was worth it for him, ditto Brook - neither were smart moves in boxing terms, but made good publicity and money for both, while creating scenarios for 'acceptable losses'. The smart move is to do what Ward did and settle into the new weight first if they had plans to actually win.

Ward here is just talking openly and plain common-sense - refreshing with all the smack talking we get from some other boxers who were far smarter in the ring than they are when opening their mouths (looking at you Mayweather....)

Thank you. So now we've established that Canelo did say he would fight GGG if he beat Cotto, And GGG was saying that he could make 155, for the right opponent.

What most people, with a whole brain, expected to happen if Canelo beat Cotto was that he would offer GGG a bigger slice of the purse in return for a catchweight.

What did happen was that Canelo first asked permission for another voluntary - again pledging to fight GGG next if he agreed to allow it, then vacated his belt without even offering Golovkin the catchweight option.

But see, we were talking about the options GGG was looking at when he got the offer from Ward and turned it down. And that was more than a year before Canelo signed to fight Khan. In fact it was before he even fought Cotto.

That number was just a rumour started by something BJS said on twitter.
It was in an interview with Loeffler flat out ASKED by the interviewer. Loeffler smiled and nodded his head. The interviewer even wrote he thought that meant yes. But "technically" he didn't say that number. He did say it was life changing money. Why would $1.5 million be life changing money when he makes that up in 2 fights??? GTFO here we ALL thought it was $4,000,000. I did also. I even posted Saunders was a FKN ducking RTard for not taking that much $$$

Lol what? That's just what Saunders was demanding for the fight, no one is gonna offer him that. In GBP no less.

Saunders himself said that Loeffler had offered him "life changing money" to fight GGG.

Those were the actual words BJS used. I know that because I read them them myself at his twitter account.

Liar strikes again. Golovkin said he wouldn't fight below 160 right after Canelo said 155.

The thing about GGG - Ward however was that the window was vanishingly small - basically a short period in late 2015, before the outcome of Canelo / Cotto fight and long before Canelo moved to fight Khan. Ward was under his own time pressure to nail down the HBO contract which basically meant agreeing to fight Kovalev or Golovkin. Now I'm not saying Golovkin would have fought Ward anyway, but in the event K2 had a choice between a possible Canelo fight (or at very least the WBC strap) or a signed Ward fight. It's a judgement call. In the event it's not worked out great for them, but I'd be wary of second guessing what probably seemed like the smart choice at the time.
