Why should I worry about a potential "bad business decision" when the people making it have already made that decision and bitten the bullet. And I assume Roc Nation has deep pockets, one bad decision won't make or break them especially when the decision was made in order to have a P4P vs another P4P!

The only downside I see is that the undercard suffers because now they probably can't afford to pay anyone else in the 6 figures.
Roc Nation is a collaboration between Jay Z and a sports agency that has 250 million due to them from active baseball contracts a million is nothing to these guys.

300k * 70 = 21m. HBO takes half = 10.5m + 3-5m gate, say 15m total. If kov is getting 4m, then 250k is about where break even point is.

I agree with the author though, 5m guarantee to a guy that's never been on ppv and is not a proven draw is a not a wise investment. But that's how roc operates, they've been significantly overpaying all of their fighters. From ward getting 2m for Paul Smith to cottos 15m guarantees.
HBO doesn't take half you moron. HBO and cable companies get 40 percent total so 300k is 11.1 million add in 3 million from gate and that's 14.1 million you coward.

But BAD for Golovkin to try and do the same, as defending champ, against Jacobs.

Because Jay Z is a billionaire and Tom Loeffler isn't!

Loeffler has done a great job promoting GGG, with regard to raising his profile and getting him to where he is right now.

But I'm starting to think that, where GGG is right now, the waters have gotten too deep for Loeffler.

With the funds he has available, and the way boxing is in the US today, Tom doesn't seem able to do Golovkin justice and get him the big fights he needs to take his career to the next level.

The fact that GGG's biggest purse was paid by Eddie Hearn, not Loeffler, speaks for itself.

Or Golovkin is scared to take big fights.

So who is he scared of ... Canelo, who handed over his belt when GGG was his mando, then sent an offer asking him accept a fixed fee for a fight in a years time?

Or Andre Ward ... who wanted him to sign a contract agreeing to move up to 168 when WARD was ready, but not GGG?

Or maybe Danny Jacobs ... bwahaha!

This is a guarantee to Ward by his promoter. He's that takes the hit. It'd be nice to see the split between kovalev and ward

All of the above except Jacobs:

With Ward it was "Maybe in 2048 if he's still alive"

And with Canelo it was "He won't fight us, will probably low ball us at 2mil to avoid fight"

But the offer came in at 10mil and we haven't heard a peep since.

???? They're going to hit that with the gate $$$$ alone.

99% of EVERY boxer out there would take $10,000,000 to fight Canelo than HALF that to Fight a KILLER like Kovalov. Sht Kovalov gets a THRILL out of torturing boxers. Just look at the Pascal fight??? Roach had to throw the towel in because Kov. wouldn't KO him that early. LOL!!!

WOW! Signing with Roc Nation was a great move for him, they make sure he gets paid well that is for sure regardless of who he fights. WTF is he suppose to do turn it down or bring his price down and think about other fighters to be honest $5 Million is NOTHING compared to what guys was getting paid during Don King and Bob Arum Prime years as Promoters!

Yeah a week after a lot of Casuals Fight Fans will spend their money on UFC 205 I don't see that PPV doing well next week. Also the promotion by Mainevents has been WEAK! I thought the Buzz around it would be bigger but maybe things pick up next week during fight week but not Promoted well AT ALL
