The headline reads like a fanboy on NSB hating on the fight...

    But,

I saw that the article was written by Keith Idec and gave a look; and he may have a fair point.

He seems to go against the promoter.

Well, boxing is in a bit of a bad way, so sign of the times.

I didn't take it this way at all, more about Roc Nation than Ward.
He's making less money in relation to risk-reward in his last two fights. Cotto has the same guarantees.

Just run the basic numbers through. Neither guy is popular, so you can forget international TV rights and promotions.

300k * 70 = 21m. HBO takes half = 10.5m + 3-5m gate, say 15m total. If kov is getting 4m, then 250k is about where break even point is.

I agree with the author though, 5m guarantee to a guy that's never been on ppv and is not a proven draw is a not a wise investment. But that's how roc operates, they've been significantly overpaying all of their fighters. From ward getting 2m for Paul Smith to cottos 15m guarantees.

You'd think Ward was the foreigner the way the US media attacks him....but we see this all the time.

Nobody hates their in any sport but Americans.

Ward might not be a PPV star, but at least his promoter is paying the right fighter, Ward beat the best at 168 n now hes coming against the p4p king

Focus on numbers when fights can't made because of A side-B side ish. THIS fight is signed sealed and delivered, who cares about the money at this point!!! They're gonna "GET IT OWN"

I'm getting cable next Wednesday just so I can buy this fight. Kovalev and Ward are two of my favorite fighters. I hope the fight is good!!

Also, I agree. The article is weird and gives off the impression of haterism against Ward.

If Ward was able to get $5mil, then good for him!

It's like in baseball, football, basketball, etc.. When these players get these enormous 100mil+ contracts and people get mad at the players. Don't blame the players. Blame the morons who though it was a good idea to pay him that much.

How does this fight have to do anywhere near 400-500 k for it to be profitable

Just some unwarranted negative press for Ward. The guys moving up and taking one of the biggest threats in the division and this writer has the nerve to be critical, f.ucking lame

Wards at fault for getting a good paycheque
Yeah, it's good that Ward is getting a huge paycheque, as the challenger, against Kovalev.

But BAD for Golovkin to try and do the same, as defending champ, against Jacobs.

If even a 100k buy this ppv I'll be surprised. 200k would be absolutely huge considering not many know Kovalev and even fewer people know ward.
