Yeah you're a f**king bonafide ****** and should have your boxing fan card revoked immediately if you think that **** was a draw.
That said Manny hasn't just lost one step...he has lost two IMO. Which is still borderline amazing since that is still good enough to outclass a top ten belt holding welter who is 10 years younger.
Steve Kim used the best analogy pre-fight, and that was that Manny's like a overpowering flame throwing pitcher who is at the end of his career and has lost a lot of speed off the fastball -- but is still veteran savvy enough to get guys out.
That fastball was just good enough to get Jessie Vargas out...but getting guys like Crawford, Spence, Thurman, etc. would probably be a different story.
It was an okay performance but very pedestrian as far as Manny performances go. Credit to Vargas as well...he fought a very strong first half of the fight. Ended up wilting in the second half, though.
That is a good analogy Manny is pretty much a pure boxer now (in his own way), he is not trying to fight you he is trying to box guys and generally gets the job done. That is impressive when you consider where he started in terms of his boxing. Really the only guys that can take care of him even at this point are guys that were always excellent boxer.
Got to respect a guy that can change up their game to that degree and remain at a very high level, especially for all the **** Manny got for his boxing ability.
First things first, Stephen A. Smith should never be allowed to commentate boxing again.
Second, to see a Twitter lower thirds graphic and TR commentary promoting it as a respectable scoring method turned this bout into a rainbow brite farce from public ownership
Third, I dont even recall Pac accomplishing traditional combos. When? No inside game, was just waiting for Vargas to attack, the defending Champ.
Sure Pac got a 2nd round Flash, but what after that? Pac had eaten 5 signifant rights throughout rounds clean, and both continued the work...
Also how can Pac acknowledge Crawford at 140 as no problem, yet doesnt bring up other
Definitely not especially with the KD but Vargas gave a good showing, better than most do against Pacquaio.
Landing some really good right hands, countered well with the left and did some good body work too. Straight right and up close.
Vargas problem was he just wasn't good enough for Pac.
It was closer than most people saw...the facial damage on Vargas seems to give the impression that Pac was landing hooks and uppers all night long thats not the case ; much of the swelling came from clash of heads. Vargas landed more solid blows in this fight, Pac was faster ; smarter and maybe even had superior condition despite being what? ten years older...another note I dont blame Pac for not taking more risk what for? if you are controlling the fight and beating your opponent off the jab it would be foolish especially having a knockdown early in the fight...so perhaps some people are over-reacting over the lack of aggression they seem to forget that it was Vargas that needed to step it up from the initial fall ( which he did but It seems he started to fade to bad he was turning it up.)
