first, yes Canelo vs ggg is likely to do around a mil in ppv buys as its the biggest fight that can be made in boxing right now. If promoted right and put on a Mexican holiday weekend, it's a lock. Second, not offering a ppv upside is a creative way to duck the fight but try and save face. Handing over a belt was the first tactic, and now trying to shortchanged an established name on getting some ppv cut is another. Oscar saw this work to success when mayweather offered it to pac so he's running with it because he knows there are some simpletons out there who will think that it's a fair offer when it really isn't. Pac turned it down when mayweather offered it and eventually cot 4 times more than what mayweather was offering.

Golovkin doesn't make $10m for any other fight out there, and he's likely not getting anywhere near 30% on the fight (a figure, mind you, that would maybe get him $10m on the fight doing 1m PPV buys).

Floyd offered Pacquiao $40m for the fight in 2012; the fight got delayed 3 years, was easily double what anyone could've ever expected it to be, and all we know for sure is that Manny Pacquiao apparently got a check for $25m on the night of the fight.

Top Rank's share off of the PPV was basically $85m, with a likely $20m from the live gate. If Pacquiao ended up seeing even $50 of that, I'd be shocked (especially after caravaning around a 300-person entourage for his full camp).

I'd hate to burst your bubble but Canelo-Cotto 2 is not a bigger event than Canelo-GGG. Canelo-GGG is the most anticipated fight in boxing.

Complete and utter revisionist BS. The Pac-May fight was not built up for two more years, there was no more building to do or required. In fact, in those last two years, people were sick of waiting for it and had practically given up. It is a myth that 5 years of marinating generated the huge numbers - it would have done the same numbers before that too.

As for Golovkin's leverage - he is making perfectly good purses without Canelo. It is Canelo's numbers that are declining, cos fans are not gonna take the fight go past 2017. Canelo and GBP are under huge pressure to make the fight in Sept 2017. They can't walk away from the table and no-one, apart from the idiots on the internet, is gonna let that pass.

... Alvarez just did a $5m live gate in Texas, and $20m on PPV, against a fighter that non one stateside had ever heard of (before even noting that the Mexico TV numbers were also massive for the fight).

I posted this like 2 weeks ago when I read the WBO guy give Saunders 2 mandos. WBO allows titlist in the lower weight to fight for title in next division up.

It's bad enough HBO is protecting Canelo from GGG; now the WBO gives ODH the same special treatment they gave Arum to aide in this. hahaha

nice to know you're stalking my comments. Are you on my nuts more or on Canelo's? You can look through my post but you won't see me saying how great ggg is. I just want the fight to happen. You Canelo nut huggers are so transparent. He's impossible to defend but you try your best. We all know that you'd rather the fight not happen because you know he'd get washed and it'd probably crush your soul so you believe that Canelo wants the fight and that Oscar is really trying to make it work. It only makes you a biased Mexican or an idiot.

ok fine, so you want the fight to happen but you're OK with the choices of him fighting amir khan instead? And then Liam Smith? And then most likely Saunders? I haven't been ok with who ggg is fighting but his choices at mw are limited because Jacob's and Saunders don't really seen eager to fight him. Canelo on the other hand is in a better position to make better fights happen because of his status but he's choosing not to do so. That's why I have a problem with this whole scenario as a fan. I really just think that what golden boy says and does are 2 different things. They'll say they're trying to make the fight happen but their negation tactics seem to want the opposite. Example I think mayweather could've beaten pac at any stage but I think there was a time that he was reluctant to take the fight. So instead he came up with tactics such as the testing and flat fee to make it seem that he wanted to fight but in reality he was just trying to maintain his reputation.

Of course not! And that's why I didnt buy his fight with Liamb Smith. I did buy the Khanelo fight because I wanted to see Khan get Bambi-legged. But it was hard to see him almost get decapitated instead.

And Im really not looking to paying for a Saunders vs. CanYellow fight??? But it's for the last belt and at least we know he won't keep it hostage like Cotto, Saunders did. He'll drop it in trash or give it to GGG or HOPEFULLY fight for ALL the belts. Plus I'm buying that fight to see how he looks against real 160lbers. If he handles Saunders easily. I won't buy any other MW fights not involving Jacobs or GGG or Canelo. And it has to be ONLY these three guys.

you can assume what you want but you know that the fact is, there are 2 types of fans, neutral fans who want the fight to happen and then there are Canelo fans who beat off to his posters and fear that him losing will ruin their man crush feelings. You are clearly the latter.

In the history of the ****ing sport, Golovkin is about to be on the verge of being maybe the first professional fighter to never have to concede anything for a fight in their life.
