What makes Golovkin resume even worth that kind of hype. 10 million bucks is accully too much to give Golovkin based on what he's done. Golovkin only had one P.P.V event let me school you guys on why Golovkin should only get 10 million bucks.
Golovkin has been fighting for 10 years, is almost 35 years old, & there are no quality names on his resume. Not to mention the manner in which he acquired his "titles".
There comes a point when "Nobody wants to fight him!" just doesn't fly! It starts sounding like an excuse and a sales pitch!
Hagler won the undisputed Middleweight championship at age 25 in 1980, & was undisputed champion from 1980-1987.
He was nearly 10 years younger than Golovkin when he won the title, and defended it for seven years. He wasn't elevated to champion, or awarded a belt like Golovkin was.
Hagler was WBC/WBA and Lineal champion.
Those were the only belts at the time. There was no IBO, IBA, IBF, IBC, WBU, WBO or any other alphabet soup organizations.
In 1983, Wil Scypion became the USBA Middleweight champion. And he fought Hagler in 1983 losing to Hagler.
That same year, Robert Lee lost his bid to become President of the WBA. Some members of the WBA formed the IBF.
In 1984, Hagler, Holmes and I think Donald Curry (all USBA champs), were elevated to IBF champs. There was also no 168lbs division until after Hagler retired.
Hagler would later fight Roberto Duran in 83', Hearns in 85', and Leonard in 87'. He took these fights, because at this point, he proved himself, he cleaned out his division, and now, he wants to get paid.
Hagler dominated his division for over seven years, & vacated the IBF belt in 1987, for the Leonard fight. He was a real champion, not a title holder like Lil' G!
He wasn't fighting set-up fights to make him appear "Monstrous", he was a Monster! He wasn't advertised as feared, he was feared, and respected.
Golovkin fought a Colombian fighter named Milton Nuņez(33-16) becoming the WBA Interim champ. Milton Nuņez has been knocked out 12 times in his career!
Golovkin was elevated from WBA (interim) to WBA champ because Felix Sturm wouldn't fight him. Sturm wouldn't fight him because Sturm already had a taste of American money(against De La Hoya) & wanted a unification against Pavlik.
Besides, no one ever heard about or was concerned with Golovkin. Sturm(WBA champ) & Arthur Abraham(IBF champ) were the men in Germany.
Daniel Geale beat Sturm, and vacated the WBA so that he could avenge a controversial loss against Mundine in a huge fight in his home country of Australia. Again, no one ever heard about or was concerned with Golovkin.
GGG was elevated to WBA (regular), & would later fight unknown American Lajuan Simon for the vacant IBO championship.
Lajuan Simon fought for a vacant IBO belt, after coming off a recent loss against Dionisio Miranda for a WBC Intercontinental belt.
Golovkin would later fight Marco Rubio for the WBC Interim, making him #1 contender for the WBC belt.
Rubio is nearly 40yrs old, has 8 losses(4 by KO), and fought Spada for the WBC interim belt. Spada had no business fighting for that belt, because he was a 6 round fighter!
Golovkin then defeated David Lemieux for the IBF belt. David Lemieux defeated Hasan N'Dam who was torched by amateurs (in the first round) of the Olympics for the Vacant IBF belt.
Golovkin was later awarded with the WBC belt because instead of accepting Canelo's terms, decided to wait until the deadline, & let the fight go to purse bid.
And guess what? He still isn't the Lineal Champion!
What a legacy!
