  • I'm fine with it.

    Ship has long sailed.

Golovkin seems content on collecting every MW trinket in the observable universe and not moving up anytime soon. Nothing wrong with that.

Ward needs to keep his focus on who has in front of him in the immediate future anyways.

Kov is going to be one hell of a tough out I feel.

Anyone can argue the finer points & try to offer validity to the side of their choosing, but you can't argue when one side was willing to give up a few pounds while the other wasn't. Really all there is to it.

As Ward said, that shipped sailed (at least for a couple of years) but it was all by his own choosing & refusal to meet Golovkin half way or at least defend his title at 168 & see what the next year or two had in store. If the fight ever gets made down road, then it will have to be GGG who moves up & therefore will be taking the risk, just as Ward is now doing in a very measured & time consuming fashion with 175 & Kov.
What you are saying here isn't true. I would say that the side that has to lie to make its point is the one that is obviously to blame. Never mind the fact that it was Golovkin who claimed he would fight anyone between 154 and 168. What about the fact that K2 just rejected Ward's proposal without even considering it. Ward offered 50/50 everything including weight according to him. I think that would qualify as meeting them halfway. I haven't heard any denial of this from Tom Loeffler. The only explanation I've heard is that they were just not interested in making a fight with Ward until maybe 2017. The rest of what Golovkins fans are saying is either conjecture or straight up lies. And let's not forget that Golovkin was middleweight in the Amatuers which is 165 and he moved down in weight to fight in the division as a pro. Andre Ward was a middle weight in the Amatuers and moved up a division for the Olympics to allow his teammate Andre Dirrel the chance to win gold in the middleweight division. And he happened to win a gold medal fighting bigger men. Now John David Jackson and GGG fans want to revise history and say that Ward was a light heavy throughout his amatuer career to discredit him. And the same people want to claim that GGG is a small middleweight that has always been to small to fight Ward when in reality Golovkin is the one who is the naturally bigger guy that had to come down in weight to fight as a middle weight as a pro. So don't give me this very measured and time consuming nonsense about Ward moving up to fight Kovalev when you're defending a guy who moved down in weight to fight in the only division he ever fought in as a pro.

No don't say we. Say you. That's what you're talking about because it fits your narrative. How would it even apply if the person you are talking about didn't even go all the way up in actual weight. Especially when you say "everybody can't be Mayweather". The yo yo effect means that losing and gaining the amount of weight between the division limits would have had a negative affect on the persons body. Mayweather did not go up to 154 in actual pounds. So therefore your statement does not apply to him.

They've both demanded it, in fact Golovkin is actually currently defending his titles, waiting in his division for a top ranked p4p guy to do the inevitable & honor his words. There is a priority wouldn't you think? Especially when you're talking about the #1 earner in the sport?

Some would say (including Ward himself) that the GGG vs Ward fight should have been made prior to Ward moving up for Kovalev. That fight would have always been there, at a much lesser price point I might add than the Gennady fight.

To me it seems that Ward did in fact take less money for a different challenge. Not exactly sure it's a greater one since it was a natural progression that he was already moving up anyway, but a huge challenge none the less & he deserves recognition for that.

As for GGG, I totally agree that Ward is the biggest challenge in the sport but even more so if he has the weight disadvantage. Is that a business decision, of course & the right one.

He should have put it to rest a long time ago and simply said he got fat and can no longer make the weight. End of story.

                • 100% agree this fight never happens unless GGG jumps up to 175. Going down is not ideal for Ward just like it wasn't a good idea for Roy Jones Jr to drop from HW back to LHW.

                  • Everyone keeps saying how Ward keeps bring GGG up when that's not the case. The media keeps asking the same question over and over again and Ward keeps giving the same answer. If people are tired of hearing, tell the media to stop asking the same dumb ass question and move on.
