Golovkin didn't "bend" to Canelo's catchweight demand because he worked for his mandatory status and didn't have to bend. He doesn't have to "bend" to Jacobs' financial demands because the purse bid split has been written on paper for decades. And he rejected Canelo's joke flat fee offer for same reason that everyone before him did. Canelo didn't take flat fee from Floyd or Cotto, Floyd didn't take flat fee from Oscar, Manny didn't take flat fee from Floyd. I can keep going. Nobody in big fights takes a flat fee. Ever.

Golovkin didn't work his way into a mandatory position for the WBC title, they went against their own rules to allow it to happen, likely due to the potential financial gain. Golovkin may have to bend to Jacob's demands, because HBO has exclusive rights to all of his fights. So should K2 lose out on a purse bid that would likely mean him vacating his belt.
