yes, his jabs a lot better,uses it much more effectively. His footwork is light years ahead of barreras too. His overall ring IQ is miles better, knows how and when to set up his punches and gets in and out of danger a lot quicker than barrera. I'd argue his defence (whilst no mayweather) is far better than barrera, barrera drops his hands when he throws a lot of of the time. Barrera is a C class fighter, Kovalev is A class its as simple as that really, was no need to ask me to strip it down to basics lol.
