I noticed posters disliking the technical side of boxing and just enjoying power punchers...But take away the technical side and you just have a toughman contest... So what makes boxing boxing to you?

I'm gonna go with the tried and true cliche of hit & not get hit. If one wants to sum up the essence of the sport in the fewest number of words, then that would be it.
But boxing to me is all the facets. Defense. Head movement/slipping punches. Footwork. Feints. Angles. The 1-2. Combinations. Ring generalship. Cutting the ring off. Cleanly landed shots.
That's boxing to me.

My girl thinks I am a punk for beating the crap out of j dudes. She ****s all over me, and corrects me!
She calls me a punk for whipping on lil j dudes. She's right.
Now, we just walk away from any and all senseless confrontations. I wish I could say I thought of it, but my girl did. Stop being ****** is what she throws out to me regularly.
Stop being ******.Last edited by Zaroku; 10-15-2016, 01:54 AM.

Watching street fights appeal to those who get off on raw violence and don't need much stimulation beyond that. Getting in fights is one thing but it seems like those who watch them can't follow or understand what's going on in a boxing match.
The sport of boxing is about technique and strategy. I like "wars" in the ring, but even they have some level of technique and people prepare for that specific match.Last edited by Redd Foxx; 10-15-2016, 01:08 AM.

To answer your OP: power punchers can be very technical larryx, I think you tend to overlook that far too often. The philly shell variations, that's just one of many styles out there. It only becomes superior when the fighter who masters it is superior. Give me a defensive wizard with a peekaboo style over a guy who uses the shell with horrible defense.
You can also be offensive and technical. I don't get why people automatically assume that an offensive fighter who likes to brawl isn't also/can't be a defensive wizard and floor general at the same time.
