Yeah I can't recall any fight being on regular HBO or Showtime and having a purse over 3 million outside of maybe overseas fights with Wlad or Vitali, which is obviously an entirely different animal and they're not footing the whole bill. I just don't see any way you could pay theses guys what they want without putting it on PPV and I don't think it'd be big enough to recoup their loses.

I went to both GGG at MSG and Jacobs st Barclays, and those showings say otherwise. Well maybe 70/30-65/35 could work too

GGG has fought before sellout crowds in L.A, New York and London and K2's got HBO money in hand to make a serious bid on that fight. Jacobs doesn't have that drawing power.

Golovkin is the fighter, not the promoter/manager, so there is nothing he can do aside from instructing his team to let him fight for "short(er) money"

but why would he do that? the importance of this fight is overhyped. I do not see it being overly competitive.

Danny's athletic gifts and skillful boxing technique provides a few wrinkles that we haven't seen vs GGG, but we already know DJ's chin is fragile while GGG's is granite. GGG by KO5.

This fight's not a huge money maker...it takes two to make things go right, and the B-side is not a draw anywhere in the world. Like I said before, DJ is lucky to get 75/25...if not for PBC he'd be making less than Curtis Stevens (who actually draws a crowd going back to his Chin Checker days)

Don't get me wrong would love to see a 'stacked' show. I just don't think there is much incentive for GYM to send their fighters to fight on the 'road'. Boxing is so low on the radar here in Canada, if you take the Canelo fight as a yardstick and that sold 250000 PPV allegedly, in Canada we are 1/10 the population of the
US, how many extra viewers up here could make that much of a difference? The logistics to broadcast the event would not add up... GYM does not even send any fighters for tuneups here in Toronto.

I've read that Toronto has a pretty weird boxing commission, though.

Also, which Canelo fight are you speaking of? If Alvarez-Smith did 250k alleged PPV buys, you'd imagine that Golovkin-Jacobs could pull in something similar (especially if paired with two fights that Canadians would seemingly be interested in seeing).

With DiBella basically not expecting much from Canada, have Michel keep the Canadian TV money (or most of it). If adding a Canadian to the bill puts an extra $1m into the pot for DiBella, that looks like a win/win for me.

Jacobs previous mega fight did 380k viewers and 8.5k at Barclays, and this guy thinks it's a 10m fight lol. Thurman and Porter just split 2.4m in purse. Wake up!

The Jacobs-Quillin fight card had payouts that approached $5m; $3m disclosed for the main event, Cuellar got $200k, Oquendo got $100k, Chris Algieri headlining SHOExtreme (nothing seems to be definitive, but it seems as if Algieri took home $200k-$250k on the fight), and another two fights to support SHOExtreme. nice try though.

Mayweather-Pacquiao was arguably double what anyone was willing to project, Pacquiao took home the payday on that fight and another $20m in the Bradley fight, yet Manny Pacquiao still feels compelled to fight, and has openly said so for the Jessie Vargas fight, to support his family financially.

If Pacquiao really took home what you think he took home, yet is still fighting for a paycheck, he's either a fool who's gotten swindled out of his money or an idiot who's consistently spent money he never even had.

Floyd got his money, fulfilled the last fight on his deal, and went home. Pacquiao fought Floyd and Bradley, yet he's back fighting for a paycheck 6 months after "retiring". gtfoh.

Lock in terms before the subsequent offers get worse, tbh. GBP/Canelo feel that Golovkin's worth to the fight (at 160lbs) is $10m; Golovkin delaying the offer, leaves him needing to show how he's worth more.

If the Jacobs fight falls through, where does Golovkin go to show that he deserves a share? Billy Joe Saunders, though a quality operator, has less name ID in the US than Liam Smith did. Golovkin-Saunders is unlikely to do monster business in NYC or the UK.

Golovkin possibly picks up another belt, but the business not manifesting likely leaves Golden Boy's next offer being $8m, or less.

With K2 continuing to be tricky at the negotiating table, that's the risk that they're taking.
