Is Canelo vs. GGG even that big of a fight financially?

Its rumored that GGG was offered a 10 million dollar flat fee (dont really care if its true or not) but my question is, is this fight even worth that kinda $?

Despite what most people say or think GGG isnt known and Canelo isn't the cash cow hes made to be. Sure Canelos the biggest $ draw in boxing but thats not saying much in this era. Unless one of these guys goes on dancing with the stars or produces a celebrity sex tape I dont see this doing more that Cotto vs. Canelo at all no matter how much they marinate it.

Anyway, if GGG was offered that kinda $ he should just jump on it because if hes really making 10 million, GBP is in for a loss or a lot lower #'s than they figure.

    Thoughts?

We don't really know until it happens, but all signs seem to say that it is a big fight that could do over 1 million in ppv sales.

None of these fighters will ever be as big on ppv as mayweather and pacquaio were...the market has changed, and those two guys had a lot of luck as far as being in the right place at the right time (besides being great).

It is the biggest fight that can be made in boxing...Yes, big enough where the b side can comfortably make 8 figures.

Yes and it doesn't need to do as good as Cotto-Canelo to be a financial success. Remember PPV numbers are only one aspect of the income from the event. The gate is a big factor, and Canelo does huge gates as well as solid ppv numbers. I think even on a bad day this fight generates $25-30 million for the main event fighters (after network cut, undercard, and all costs).

Please don't ask for me to elaborate further just use your common sense.

No way 9 figures for b side.

This fight wont make that much. Maybe 35-40 mil and at best 50 mil but not in hundreds

But Cotto vs. Canelo didnt even do that and they had 3 countries supporting them. I just dont see it unless they do 1 hell of a promotion on it...

50 million??? Wow, I wouldve assumed 25 max but I dont know all the underlying issue but from what I gather there is a lot that goes into these events financially so I would assume this fight would be an L for GBP financially...

I mean 10+ million for Golovkin. I think that is very attainable. I meant to say 8 figures, my bad

I've been saying for a while now that it's not as big as some people seem to think. Cotto is only behind Pac and Mayweather in terms of being a draw and that fight didn't break a million. Canelo and Cotto are two of the biggest draws and had the Mex/PR rivalry. I don't see any way GGG and Canelo breaks a million if that fight couldn't. It'd be successful and is the biggest fight that can be made, but Pacquiao and Mayweather has confused people as to what a successful PPV is. Both were crossover stars with the kind of popularity we may not see again for a very long time.

I think Cotto's popularity has been way down for a while. Golovkin already sells more tickets in New York than Cotto does anymore.

I'm not saying Golovkin is a ppv money machine on his own or anything. I just think this particular fight is very big when all of the factors are added up.
