Is Canelo vs. GGG even that big of a fight financially?

The promoter will absolutely participate in this process and help devise a plan, that is LITERALLY their job.

Watch the Eddie Hearn interview or live in ignorance, either way I don't really give a shiz.
Eddie Hearn doesn't promote PPV's in the US. It's a different model. You said the networks take on the majority of advertising and marketing cost. Fields says different. Did you know the promoter is the one that pays for the 24/7 series? You're wrong.

Yes. It's the biggest fight in boxing. Why do you think everybody is talking about it so much? It's the fight everyone wants to see. GGG deserves a 65-35 split of the money with Canelo getting 65% in my opinion. His 35% would be a hell of a lot more than 10 million for sure.

Completely agree. Most in the industry believe this will be a 100 mill fight, so conservative estimates on that number means about ~50 mill in purses. Your looking at GGG making 17-18 mill.

You're completely right here. The distributor pays for very little of a PPV fight. The promoters are the ones that put up the money for the purses. I know with HBO they take a very small % with a cap.

Just a side note, the mayweather-showtime deal however was different where showtime was the one who backed the purses. This is the only time i know of this happening, but i could be wrong. A very rare circumstance for a HUGE draw, an exception to the rule.

Canelo and Cotto are two of the biggest draws and had the Mex/PR rivalry. I don't see any way GGG and Canelo breaks a million if that fight couldn't. It'd be successful and is the biggest fight that can be made, but Pacquiao and Mayweather has confused people as to what a successful PPV is. Both were crossover stars with the kind of popularity we may not see again for a very long time.

            Good point...

It's hard to make projections for the biggest fight in boxing. These have a way of exceeding all expectations. Floyd vs Oscar, vs Pac way more than the sum of their parts. Not saying this come close but doesn't have to for 10m flat to be a terrible deal. That's why upside is automatic for super fights, no need for guesswork

It's big because it will make GGG into a household name & PPV attraction.

I don't buy it. I doubt it will.

Not as big as BBB side fans think it will be. I think it does just above Cotto/Canelo numbers and may do over 1 million buys but its not guaranteed.

Exactly why I don't think GGG vs Canelo does 1m buys or over it.
