It's too early to tell how good/bad Sam Eggington is, but to call the guy a Euro bum is ridiculous. He's got a fight coming with Frankie Gavin (a fringe world-level challenger), and that should clear some things up.

Still, the dude turned pro at 18, had only 40 amateur fights beforehand (apparently never winning anything of note), and loss 2 of his first 11 fights. He's learning his craft as he goes (and his run since that initial bit, of 9-1, gives hints that he may be able to fight a bit).

Khan is the only top 10 guy he should get in the Ring with after that lay off. It may not as quick as 5rds this time but the KO would come before 12. Khan is ruined, no fighter can come back from getting KO'd by such a big guy at a higher weight then go back down, look at RJJ and he was far athletically superior to Khan. After he KO's Khan hed be ready for Thurman and itd be 50/50 imo...

Opportunity cost of putting the fight on CBS versus putting the fight on SpikeTV; if we acknowledge the fact that Garcia's next fight is to build momentum for the coming unification fight with Keith Thurman, they can do a lot worse than place a so-so fight (without an opponent being announced yet, the event is likely being positioned as "come see Danny Garcia fight") on a channel with a dedicated series of bringing combat sports to a largely combat sport-friendly audience.

In a perfect world, Danny Garcia has his fight on Spike in November (Thurman gets at least a guest spot on commentary), Keith Thurman handles his mandatory defense in December (Garcia gets at least a guest spot on commentary) and PBC packages all of it, to build the type of promo package that they can then take to Showtime/CBS to launch the arc for the mega-fight (on CBS or Showtime/SHOPPV).

that would require PBC actually having some sort of long-term strategy and planning for the future, which seems to be of minor importance to them.......

I understand your premise, I just disagree. If that was the overall strategy, then why not put the tune-up on CBS instead of Spike and have 10x the views, building up to the Showtime / PPV fight?

because spike wanted to get into the boxing business and was willing to pay license fees that would be going to other promoters if haymon didn't swoop in.
