    Floyd's Check Hook

why couldn't any of his victims neutralize it?

They all knew he depends on it to get out. Yet it was rarely countered.

Depends on it?? he did not throw it alot at all..that shot is almost impossible to defend if set up correctly...I am far, far, far from even a pro fighters level and that punch has ended fights for me instantly...Floyd is a master at making a person come forward and that half a step back while turning to the side is perfect punch to meet them with..But more then not they are looking for thew right hand he loves to throw...And that is why you see fighters get hesitant to throw with Mayweather

You don't neutralize a neutralizer. His check hooks are a response to an opponent closing distance. If the opponent made themselves unavailable for that shot, Floyd didn't throw it. The natural followup is a pivot so he wasn't there to be countered after.

I think Maidana did well against Floyd's bait and counter right hand approach. This biggest problem with guys who face Floyd, for example Cotto or Canelo, is they respect his power too much. Floyd could toy and feint confusing them all night and more importantly making them not want to commit on closing the distance. Maidana on the other hand would double down and bull doze.

Also Pac had some success with Floyd's pull counter

As for the check hook, it's a great punch for Floyd when opponents are desperate to get inside. It's a perfect accurate punch that Floyd can control range with. Roy could do it as well.

            -Also, isn't Ward 6'1?

Manny was borderline putrid offensively that night but this was probably the best shot of the entire fight for either fighter

Floyd lead hand was really educated, fast, enough power to keep opponents thinking about what they will do next, without telegraphic moves, it was more easy to see when he started to lose his speed, but was so well threw that connected almost every time .

Corralles neutralized it with his face pretty well. Does that count?
