Do the numbers matter? The whole boxing world knows Canelo fought a bum in Smith and gave his title to GGG, who cares who sells more? Any real boxing fan knows what Canelo did was weakComment

How in the hell is a $10m package not a fair deal, when Golovkin's literally never made more than $3m on a fight ever ($2m for the Lemieux fight was the highest disclosed purse for Golovkin, but I'd figure that the Brook pckage was at least $3m)?
If K2 seriously think they're going to stick up Golden Boy for more money, they're being delusional.Comment

Half the interest?
Are you really trying to run with that? We could say that about any fight, Monroe should have got 50% vs Golovkin because he's half the interest.
Canelo is the bigger draw, he's the PPV fighter, he's the one that sells 50K tickets at double the price of Golovkin fights. $10+ mil is 5x the usual $2mil purse Golovkin gets paid for HBO. Canelo took $5 mil for a the 2nd biggest fight in history. 10+ mil is a fucking fantastic deal for a non-ppv fighter.
Canelo is the A-side...sure. But not so far ahead as an A-side to warrant offering a take-it-or-leave-it offer that results in an 85/15 purse split. What was the percentage offered if you're going to rebuttal with that? Because that percentage might be anything. It could even be 0.001%. It could mean anything. Arguing monies earned isn't going to change the fact that his Liam Smith fight bombed on ppv...it straight bombed. Yet DLH wants to make a fight that's a year away right now??? Sounds like the tactic of a desperate man.Comment

It's not like Alvarez is just going to stand by idly; if the Smith PPV numbers come in over 600k PPV buys (the number that Golden Boy put out for the Khan fight), Alvarez debuts in NYC and does a $2m-$3m gate, and the May 2017 PPV is another box office success (over 600k PPV buys), Alvarez's negotiating position will be that much stronger.
Golovkin has at least 3 fights, between now and the Alvarez date; if he lays out another flop of any kind (the next PPV effort again doing 150k PPV buys, his next US live gate not doing blockbuster business, the HBO viewership numbers collapsing), he comes up bust again.
The $10m package turns to a $5m package pretty quickly.Comment

Rumors aside, Sky Box Office was Eddie Hearn's event (with Brits paying to see a Brit take a chance, rather than buying because Golovkin was fighting) and cost cost of the PPV was closer to $35 (compared to the $70 that Alvarez charged for his fight).
Dollar for dollar, Alvarez is a significantly bigger star and draw than Golovkin is; 85/15 or 90/10 Alvarez, if you count the money, is likely about where the split merits being.Comment
