Yeah. For the guys who can draw big crowds for the big fights and are past 30, sure. It makes absolute sense.

I was mainly talking about younger fighters who aren't even that established yet, more on the verge of stardom and I mean hardcore stardom, that are taking like two fights a year to build their careers. Not a smart move, IMO.

      • I just read where Mason Menard, who has already scored two good highlight reel KOs on SHOBox this year alone, is having his third fight later this month. That's how you build a star. Have them seen often. The guy's already 32-1. If he can do this, so can guys who are 15-0 for God's sake. Good for him.

        • Any chance these inactive fighters getting busy next year?

Well, we can all hope they do, but I don't know. Not really looking like it. They definitely need to, though. Or put together some damn good matches on their one-two a year plan.

Do you really think a lot of the guys fighting twice or hell, once, a year, are going for quality? If they were, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Garcia this year will end with Guerrero and Vargas.
                Canelo with Khan and Smith.
                Stevenson with Williams.

                That ain't quality.

                • i still stand by that comment

i should have added availability and opportunity. i kept it simple. people were loving tyson fighting once a month because he was fighting straight up bums. do we really need that ?

                  • Fighting three times a year is great (props to Conor McGOAT doing that this year in the UFC) but I'm perfectly content with only fighting twice a year, especialy if you're onbe of the bigger names. All the time that goes into training, hyping the fight, fighting the fight, and then the physicality that you go through during the fight as well? These guys deserve some time off.

And the ones who aren't bigger names? How do you build up a fighter when he's in the ring twice a year? Standards have dropped. You have guys at the top fighting bums twice a year. It's getting really lame.

And here's another thread where UFC is brought up. Boxing needs to pay attention to a sport that's actually got its shyt together.
