Comments Thread For: Abel Sanchez: Golovkin Was Too Anxious, He Was a Little Sloppy

While Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs) successfully defended his middleweight belts this past weekend by stopping Kell Brook in five rounds at the O2 Arena in London, England - it was far from his sharpest performance.

I agree if they were the naturally the same weight,Brook would have schooled him.

I agree with Abel. He was anxious, and he was sloppy. Kell had some early success and the crowd was going nuts, and Golovkin I think panicked a little bit. He started swinging for the fences instead of focusing on systematically breaking Brook down. He was pressing.

It was just his approach for this one, he could have boxed Brook but he hardly used his jab, for instance. When Gennday sees no real threat he often walks the opponent down and breaks him.

Hype jobs always shrink on the big stage

The great ones always perform better under the big lights & pressure.... Hype jobs on the other hand get anxious and sloppy.... I agree dirty sanchez!

This is why GGG is not a great fighter, now!
He let his emotions take over and lost the game plan.
These fighters are human and everyone has weaknesses but great fighters don't make minor mistakes like he did.
I like this kid because watching a good puncher with decent boxing skills is fun for me. I'm tired of runners who use the excuss that running is boxing because it's NOT! Pep, Canzaneri, Charles, Robinson, Ali, Leonard all used movement and circled but they also stepped to their opponents and engaged them with combinations. When they felt they could back them up they did! Thats boxing!

When this kid uses his double jab, stays low and punches inside before going outside he is a handful for anyone!

He was more than a 'little' sloppy. He was VERY sloppy. Golovkin himself said he gives the performance a 3 or a 4, and agreed that it was not world class boxing.

Golovkin did talk about a street fight before the fight started, so it may have been his plan. I hated watching it from the perspective of a Golovkin fan, but I'll agree it was exciting and in the end, it may prove a blessing in disguise.

During the post fight interview, Golovkin said "maybe now.. Canelo will fight me".

Pretty much. He fought calm and used his jab until he hurt Brook in the 1st. From that point on he knew he had it and chased a KO. When he used his jab again the fight ended a round later. He fought sloppy because he could get away with it. We've seen that he doesn't fight that way with someone who can make him pay for it.

Stop you haters. No one fights perfect every fight the thing that counts is the outcome. Hagler lost first four rounds against Ray fighting righty sloppy he's a bum right

Don't watch much boxing do ya? Give me one example of a 'great' who didn't ever have an off night or get hit more than he shoulda. And I ain't ain't even claiming that GGG is a 'great', merely pointing out that you're entirely wrong.
