Comments Thread For: Arum's Take on Adrien Broner Bypassing Pacquiao PPV Fight

While it's Jessie Vargas who will face Manny Pacquiao on November 5th at the Thomas and Mack Center, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum had reached out to manager/adviser Al Haymon in hopes of pairing Adrien Broner (32-2, 24KOs) with 'the Pac Man'.

Fighters like Broner don't remember when Floyd was the B-side. They should look at how Floyd handled himself when he was the b-side vs. Arturo Gatti. Take the fight, give 'em that work, and keep it movin'! That was a really dumb move, and now he's calling out Burns! Turn down Pac for a shot at Burns? Really?

So Broner turned down a career high payday that with PPV bonuses would be about 4 times what he currently makes....

Chance for more exposure... more money.

Foolish decision. When you have the chance to make that money. Do it. One injury, one accident from never fighting again. Take the financial security.

Broner is flat out ****** for refusing.

I can understand where Arum is coming from with this one. Broner should have took that fight (I'm assuming it was actually offered; I kind of expect for someone to come out and say that they weren't offered the fight and lock us in this annoying battle of "he say, she say"). Aside from the career high payday, it would put Broner's name up there with that level of opposition. It would have made him a draw for future fights if he would have made the fight competitive and possibly won. The fight may have only gave him $4mil, but the earning potential due to the fight clearly exceeds that. I don't know if this is a failed "let it marinate" situation, but I don't understand why he wouldn't hop on it.

It was a legit offer. Even Broner acknowledged it and said that Arum needs to pay him what he's worth!

$4 seems like a pretty good deal to me! Maidana made $3mil for his first fight with Floyd.
