That's just my opinion on W/L/D towards title defenses. Draws officially count as successful title defenses, but this was a NC. The event was incomplete, and doesn't even count as a draw on his record.

In 2010, Felix Sturm was the WBA champion and GGG was the interim champ. There was no super champion and no regular champion at MW.

When GGG asked the WBA to mandate a fight between he and Sturm, the WBA response was to reintroduced the super title and award it to Sturm. They then told GGG the title he was mandated to fight for had been down-graded to "regular" status.

So as I'm concerned, Sturm was a paper champion after that, and Golovkin became the WBA MW champ by beating Nilson Tapia, in the ring.

The title for which he is alleged to have made 16 consecutive defenses, the WBA title, is NOT on the line. Therefore, NO 17th defense of a MW title can be made in the Brook fight.

If the WBC and IBF titles are up for grabs then Bumlovkin will be making his 1st and 2nd defenses respectively of those titles.

Please take your head out of your ass...
Wasn't expecting reading comprehension to be your strong point, so here we go.

Golovkin just made 16 straight MW title defenses. Fact.
His next fight will be another MW title defense. Fact.
          16 + 1 = 17 Fact.

thats why the title run is important.
You're arguing semantics. Golovkin defended a MW title 16 straight times. He's about to defend a MW title once more. That means he's defended a MW title 17 straight times.

But consecutive defense are irrelevant towards a title run. He's still retaining the WBA title if he wins, so he goes back to defending that particular title after this fight. His WBA title run will still be tallying after this fight. You guys are pathetic with trying to find yourselves these little moral victories against Golovkin.

So if the "top" guys are going to bow to him than your damn right I'll consider him the man in the division. Even if he had no belts there would be no question who the man is. Given the circumstances someone needs to prove he is'nt the man not the other way around.
bro...im keeping it as simple as possible.

To be champion you have to eliminate top 3 fighters...he hasn't...regardless of the circumstances he hasn't, and until he does he will remain just a top contender with 3 major title straps but he is not the world's middleweight champion

                • As a standalone decision I would understand this and say maybe that's fine but they sanctioned Makoto Fuchigami as a "title" challenger. This is a metric ****ton better than that fight. So this looks like an attention grab to look more discerning and credible, even though we know they're not very discerning or credible.

He is not the middleweight champion, fine, but Geale was the Ring's number two contender when Golovkin made him look like nothing actually.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Golovkin's argument is strictly on 'MW title defenses'. He's not even considered the lineal/undisputed champion yet per experts like Cliff Rold, so his current title defenses aren't considered going towards Monzon's or Hagler's records. In the same aspect, Hopkins run on their records didn't start until after he beat Tito, which put his number of defenses at 6.

As the WBA title won't be on the line, does that mean GGG will still be WBA champ even if he loses, and could still go on to break the record for most consecutive defences?
