So they had 2 choices: They either relinquished the belt or they went to negotiate to make the fight. But instead of relinquishing straight away, they basically said: "We want a voluntary beforehand, but we'll be happy to negotiate for a fight afterwards" Again, they should have just walked from the start.
So now he doesn't care about the belt? Yet he did when he fought Cotto. He was more than happy to be declared the lineal MW title holder. He was a proud Mexican, MW champ. He cared then, but now he doesn't?
Canelo isn't a 2 weight champ. He was, until he relinquished the belt to run back to JMW.
No, Canelo doesn't hold all the cards. But yes, if he could obtain BJS's WBO belt before he meets GG, that would give him more leverage.
I agree with you that GG obviously has a shorter time in the sport. And if Canelo doesn't get to BJS first, GG will have to go all out to try and get BJS to fight him. But will BJS be interested? It's going to take a huge payday to lure him. He's already admitted on numerous occasions that GG would beat him.
Nobody refers to Canelo as being the lineal MW champ. Yes, he's got a huge fan base, but he's lost respect and GG's fan base is getting bigger each fight.
Of course BJS would fight Canelo first. Because he'll be ultra confident of beating him. Whereas he doesn't really see GG as a winnable fight.
True. But again, this time next year could see GG in a bigger position of power. And Oscar won't be able to come in and start demanding everything in Canelo's favour.
2. Canelo is a 2 Division champion because he has held world titles in 2 divisions. No different then Pacquiao being an 8 Division Champion.
3. Canelo cared about winning the WBC title before because winning a title in a 2nd division is good for his growing resume of accomplishments. (Not a lot of Mexican Middleweight champions)
4. Lineal title was on the line against Cotto with or without the WBC title. That is exactly why Canelo is still the Lineal and RING Middleweight Champion. You not recognizing that fact does not change that it is a fact.
5. Run back to Jr Middleweight? Hilarious!! Canelo hasn't even been a Middleweight Champion for even a full year and has never fought more than 1 pound over the Jr Middleweight max of 154. Stop the madness.
6. Canelo most certainly holds all the cards because he is the A-side and he has what Golovkin wants. Golovkin has nothing that Canelo wants. Golovkin is currently holding a belt that Canelo threw away. What does that tell you?
7. Canelo can give Saunders a few things that Golovkin cannot; a chance at the Lineal/RING titles and a huge payday with huge exposure with less risk. Advantage Canelo on every issue.
8. Golovkin's fan base is growing so much that he has to travel to the UK to face a Welterweight while on the flip-side, UK boxers are lining up to come to America to fight Mexican Canelo. Not even close.
9. GGG will not gain any leverage on Canelo because GGG has no PPV power nor anything Canelo wants. He won't next yr because GGG cannot get Canelo's Lineal and/or RING ranking unless Canelo gives him the opportunity.

Why did he keep it if he had no intentions of fighting GG?
He didn't need it to lure Khan in. He could have fought Khan without it.
Advantages? Ha! What, fighting a fellow MW champ at the limit for 3 belts?
If Canelo and Oscar were never going to agree with the WBC's rules, again, why didn't they relinquish the belt instead of asking to a fight Khan before negotiating with GG?
What do you mean GG hasn't earnt it? This makes me sick. Those are the rules of boxing. You can't be in favour of the rules one minute, but not the next. GG was declared his mandatory and was a 2 weight champ before he'd even beat Cotto.
Golovkin being made the mandatory was a subjective decision. One that rarely happens in boxing.
Fight Khan without it? Hmmm? Isn't GGG putting his belts on the line against Brook? Same ****e.
Golovkin hasn't earned a 55/45 split against Canelo. Canelo is 27 and has over 4 million PPV buys to his name while 34 yr old Golovkinn has about 150,00. That difference in money making history and ability does not equal a 55/45 split.
Golovkin was made the mandatory to WBC titleholder before Canelo won it. That does not mean Canelo, or any other boxer, has to recognize that mandatory status. They had the option to follow adhere to the WBC's mandate or vacate.....they chose the latter.
Canelo became a 2 division champion when he beat Cotto. Prior to that Canelo only held major world titles at Jr Middleweight.

Are you aware that in 2008 just prior to his fight with Calzaghe, he admitted that he could have made LHW 6 years earlier had he have wanted to?
Bernard had to make incredible sacrifices to shrink down to fight in a weak division when he could have fought at SMW and LHW earlier which were much stronger.
Bernard is 6'1, with 75" reach. He was bigger than almost all of his MW competition.
If he'd been GG's size of 5'10 with a 70" reach, we don't even know if he'd ever have left MW.
Absolutely nothing. You can defend GGG all day but Brook, unlike Trinidad and DLH, is not a curent Middlewight Champion or even a Middleweight, not a former Jr Middleweight Champion and has never been a Top 10 P4P boxer. Please let us know when he accomplishes any of those things like Trinadad and DLH did BEFORE fighting B Hop.
Hopkins was still fighting at Middleweight when he was 40 yrs old. Get back to us in 6 yrs if Golovkin is too.
