As a Ward fan it's no great shakes. As a Boxing fan it is what it is. Do we really need to point out how many times in history this has happened? Lets not pretend this is the first time this has ever happened though. If need be I'll dig up the stats. Should he fight more? Yeah, I think so. Should he fight better comp leading to a superfight? Maybe, but you need to look at it from a business point and than make the comparison compared to what has happened and how things are now? Ward is still one of the best fighters in the world. Right or wrong he is leading up to a superfight everyone wants to see.

I am licking my lips at the Ward-Kovalev clash and the next #1 p4p guy after the fight, but you cannot get credit for who you are going to fight next. You only get credit for who you have fought or fighting now..
It is a shyt fight, yet it is a means to an end. He'll stop him the Oakland boys will love it, a knock out, and they'll follow their son to Vegas to support him. He's following the blue print set by everyone else yet he's being pulverised for it.

Of course it's a means to an end. That is Boxing today. Do,t like it? Than whine and cry about EVERY FIGHTER that does it. Dont blame the fighter, blame the orgs and politics of the sport. It's the fans that act like one fighter who does the same thing is beyond repute, but the next guy isn't that p*sees me off.

It is a pointless fight for 2 reasons. Fights like these can postpone near future fights. All it takes is one headbutt or one bad punch landed on top of a head. #2 it is a learn nothing fight.

I am not sure how brand fights, but if he has a dirty streak in him it could ruin November

He should've done this against any number of journeymen he has faced. This should be a fight where he simply makes a statement. A brute KO of a smaller, guy who is old and not even world level.

Dean, I've got nothing but respect for you. The way I look at it though is ANY fight is different than sparring. A fighter needs to stay sharp even if we know he can win. Could it possibly ruin the Kov fight? Of course. But I would rather my fighter take a slight risk than go into a fight cold with only sparring. Its a different world today. Guys don't fight often enough or against the best comp. Business wise I think Andre is doing the right thing. As a fan...I would rather bring back the days of fighters getting in the ring more often and fighting tougher comp. Just my two cents.
