Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Coach: DeGale at 168 Was Fine, Hearn Offered Brook

According to Abel Sanchez, trainer for WBC/WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs), they would have gladly fought IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (23-1, 14KOs) on September 10th.

Why not just call out Degale then? Haymon is the one matchmaking for Degale these days. Hearn will just promote him if he fights in the UK again

Hearn did GGG a favour by getting him the Brook fight once the Eubank fight fell through tbh. Instead of months of negotiations leading to nothing, he now at least has an easy fight on paper and gets to dabble in dat UK money

DeGale isn't as talented or as much of a draw is as Brook is over here in the UK but sure it would have been a good fight one I think GGG would have likely easily won.

Degale is unifying with Badou, I assume Abel is just using this as an example that they would take whoever could do it short notice on 9-10.

DeGale is more of a name than Brook is. He's an Olympic gold medalist. Brook is barely even known outside of Sheffield. The only thing that has worked against DeGale's favour, is that he's almost abandoned the UK and has preferred to make it out there in the States with Haymon. With less of a relationship with Hearn, this has given him less coverage in the UK.

It really underlines just how daft the whole situation is, this.

The guy in GGG's weight class in Eubank Jnr essentially turned it down (or his dad did).

Of all GGG's options the only ones pursued are another Matchroom UK fighter in Brook whose 2 weight classes below, or Degale a weight class above.

Gennady is running out of carcasses fast.

If DeGale/Jack isn't made by September, Jack has to fight his mandatory - Callum Smith. Hearn only has DeGale under contract for one more fight and he's been serving out the deal as a co-promoter b/c DeGale's been fighting in the US. If no DeGale/Jack and no Golovkin/Jacobs, then there'll be a big money fight possible for DeGale/Golovkin in December.

Nobody in the states cares for him that much and If DeGale was to ever fight Groves again it would most certainly be happening in the UK.
Also, I don't think he has that much of a rabid fanbase in the UK either in fact quite a lot of the British public dislike him.
Brook has done nothing but PPV events in his last however many fights so nah, I'm afraid you're wrong on that one.

I thought ' excuse ' was a more accurate word.
