Smith is a good fighter but unproven at the top level, despite his world title, so whether he's good enough to have a chance of beating Canelo remains to be seen.

Canelo has been under a lot of pressure for ducking GGG though and is having to make 154 for the first time in over 2 years. That could work in Liam's favour.

The way i feel about this fight is I don't think Smith really does anything better than Canelo, he's fairly orthodox and doesn't really bring any kind of awkwardness that Canelo has to think about. We all know what Canelo struggles with, and Smith doesn't bring that.

They actually are not that much different in styles. I think Canelo tries to be a bit cuter with his work and fancies himself as a master boxer, but in general i think they have a few similarities in that they're both fundamentally sound and nothing flash. I just felt Canelo probably has him beat in most aspects of their skill sets.

I still fancy Smith to give him a good fight though.

smith is not bad but he's made for canelo. he's a pressure fighter but a relatively low intensity pressure fighter, so i think he'll just be utterly picked apart by the slicker, more athletic canelo

I wouldn't rank him top 4 simply cos he hasn't fought there in a few fights (at the weight) I mean Canelo should be fighting top 4 middleweights and Smith isn't one.

In all reality, I don't dislike this fight, simply cos Liam is a beefy lad.

Smith is a domestic level fighter who happens to have grabbed a paper title. Expect him to be a game loser that put ups a fight without ever really looking like he can win it.

Who has he beaten at 154?

With the Charlo brothers and Andrade there, he might sneak in. But I'm not even sure he beat Lara when they fought.

                    Maybe top 4. I don't know. But it's close.

True. But do do you see him stepping in with any of the top 4 any time soon? I don't.

Beefy is a good fighter. I think he'll surprise a few people.

Wouldn't even put it past him to win if Canelo actually makes 154 which I also doubt he will.
