Kelly Pavlik, Antonio Tarver, Tavoris Cloud, and Jean Pascal all disagree with you.

      The BBC don't.

"This is beyond a daunting task for Brook but it's so, so exciting for the sport of boxing, and an indication that Britain is now the centre of the boxing universe."

you're talking about big, strong WW who had great wins and ended up being good / great fighters.

trinidad, mosley, de la hoya, forrest, these are absolutely massive WWs who were potent punchers and had good chins at or above the weight. so no, if he'd fought forrest or mosley i don't think there'd be a ton of flack.

brook isn't nearly as proven as that lot. not as a puncher, boxer, or in the chin. he's top ranked and he's very big, but he's not tito trinidad or oscar de la hoya by a stretch.

hopkins himself was a MW forever, until he was 40, and until he lost to jermaina taylro and started to really kill himself making the weight.

if that's all hopkins ever did [fight WW moving up,] we'd hardly talk about him. but he did more. defended his titles at MW for ever. then he went to LHW and became the best fighter in the world at the weight. beat an undefeated pavlik as an underdog. beat a very good LHW and lineal champ when he beat tarver. beat pascal when he was lineal champ as well. these are the accomplishments of an absolute legend, mind you. all done when he was in his 40's, when most boxers have been put out to pasture.

hopkins became "undisputed" at middleweight, something i don't particularly care about, but certainly not an easy task when there are 4-5 belts and even those get broken up and stripped. beat trinidad, a hall of famer, and a GIGANTIC WW with about as nasty a left hook as you're gonna see (and unerrated power in his right hand as an uppercut or just as a bomb.) trinidad was even one of the hardest punchers i ever saw at 154 outside of hearns and jackson. dude was HUGE, and consdiered a legit threat to hopkins when they fought. heck, tito was a favorite, IIRC.

so yeah, dude's a legend, and there's a lot to consider before you try and excuse what hearn loeffler, and golovkin are trying to do in making a WW move up, or make that comparison to what

BBC is state run. very much a pro british entity.

it's good news for the most part, but they're pro brit over there, and that's fine and usually harmless.

that these big name guys are heading over there as a segway into PPV money is actually pretty cool. golovkin's going to get a ton of UK money, adn we don't need to pay for a ppv to watch it because of the amount of revenue they can generate over there in gate and the low price ppv they have there that always seem to sell well.

tbe problem here is that we got brook, a talented WW in his prime, isntead of eubanks, a talented MW in his prime.

Correct, because a MW champion defending against a WW is not something shameful or cowardly, the way you clowns are trying to make it out to be.

2 of the biggest, most famous fights in boxing history - Hagler vs SRL and Hearns, were MW vs WW for the MW title.

Eubank is talented, but not yet in his prime. Physically, yes, but that has to be balanced against his lack of world class experience.

Personally, I think Brook at 160 will give GGG a tougher fight than Eubank would have done. And, providing Golovkin wins, which I think he should do, it will introduce Golovkin to the UK sports fans and make fights with the likes of BJS, DeGale and Groves much more likely. Eubank Jnr isn't out of the picture either. Hearn made that clear.

leonard had actually been at JMW and back several times. he actually beat a very solid 154 lber named ayub kalule before the hearns fight, sometjing a lot of people don't know.

and hearns was one of the best 154 lbers ever on the strength of his win over benitez, and destructionof duran. hearns hadn't fought at welterweight since he got knocked out by leonard. he'd go on to have significant wins as high as 175 aginst virgil hill, and even fought for and won world titles at CW, which was 190 lbs at the time.

so this is not only an unfair comparison about teh size, you're also not considering that leonard and hearns are arguably the two best h2h WWs ever! which is important!

Whatever you think about GGG vs Brook, you can't talk about it in terms of Loeffler and Golovkin making a WW move up, or cherry picking a WW instead of fighting MWs, etc.

Golovkin signed to fight Eubank. He and Loeffler had no part in the switch of opponent. That was Eddie Hearn's doing, not theirs. And, by definition, it can't be called a cherry pick, because Golovkin didn't pick Brook. Brook stepped up and asked for the fight himself, and it was his promoter who made it happen.
