There is no clear #1 welterweight since none of them are really fighting each other. Brook was ranked #1 by numerous different rankings, whether that's true or not is debatable and largely subjective.
Brook, Thurman, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, Bradley, these are the top guys. The Ring has had Brook #1 for a while, along with others like TBRB. ESPN had him #1 until Thurman beat Porter so they have Thurman #1 and Brook #2.

Let's not hide behind rankings here, Kell has done very little compared to Thurman, Garcia, and even Bradley. By the time he gets his next WW fight he won't have had a legit defense in 2.5 years of being champ, and that's IF he finally makes a legit defense.Comment

Has Brook accomplished anything in his boxing career that suggests he should be in the ring with Gennady Golovkin? Hell could Brook even beat Andrade, Charlos, Lara, Canelo....come on man!Comment

No,not Ring rankings. I'm referring to "best welterweight" as the thread title says. Brook winning a close fight against Porter 2 years ago is the ONLY relevant thing he's ever done. You're taking that over everything Garcia and Thurman have done?? I think Spence knocking out Algeri is more impressive than anything Brook has done, and I'm not even sold on Spence.

To me personally, it's between Brook and Thurman and until they fight, or until Spence rises up, there is no clear best welterweight. Brook hasn't fought anyone good since Porter. Thurman's best win is Porter, who Brook beat a lot easier. Garcia I don't really think he's as good as these two but that's why they all need to fight each other. Talent wise, I think Spence is the best, he just hasn't proved it yet since he's still on the rise and working his way up there.Comment
