They needed to get something done asap after getting ****ed around for so long by multiple opponents.

They got Brook because they were working with Eddie Hearn for a nearly month straight working on the Eubank fight. All the UK **** is done by Hearn, he got everything in place with Sky Sports, the UK PPV, the revenue, the venue, the international network deals, etc etc. Everything was in place for Golovkin to fight. Eubank wouldn't sign, Hearn offered Brook with the exact same deal to Golovkin and they took it. I can see why given the circumstances.
Neither Matchroom and K2 were gonna let all of this time/energy go to waste.

Other questions: why are the sanctioning bodies allowing GGG to defend his belts against Brook, and why is HBO allowing the bout to take place?

I think we know the answers.

FFS.. Eubank was stalling. Brook stepped up! You're al calling for a name to fight him (after Canelo, Saunders etc punk out) yet when one does you whine! Brook is the #1 WW in the world, he brings many things!

It's a fight I really want to see and I'm sure many others would too. He will get credit for beating Irish, certainly a lot more than pummeling Kell Brook.

The others admittedly are plan X,Y and Z but at least they are in his division, not two below.
        Andy Lee LMAO..

Because he's taller? WTF! Brook is light years ahead in terms of skill..

Which is a better win for Hopkins? Tito or the taller Howard Eastman fight?

Please use your brain next time..

Also this is ONE fight.. Who is suggesting Golovkin isn't going to fight fellow MW's (CEJ, Jacobs, Saunders) after this anyway? Get over it..

Yet Andy Lee is the far better and more competitive fight. Why do you think that might be? Could it have something to do with weight divisions?

The Brook fight is a non starter.

Andy Lee loss his belt to BJS in December 2015. He hasn't fought since and he's promoted by Dibella (I think) who's clearly aligned with Haymon. That's not to say that Lee wouldn't fight GGG, but the current situation would make that unlikely. Why would Lee fight GGG off a loss + inactivity? Why would Dibella actually let him? Lee could have a tune-up on PBC instead. It's also obvious that GGG is UK-bound, but it would probably make more sense to fight Lee in NY.

Lee is the more competitive bout, but there's other factors that make him an illogical opponent. At the end of the day, we don't want to see GGG/Lee either. I'd rather Lee vs. Eubank/O'Sullivan/Ryder.

You are right. Almost everybody expects him to win by KO and a KO win won't raise his stock. He tried to get fights with Saunders and Eubank but they wouldn't fight. Brook was the best fight being offered to him. He is, after all, a prize fighter who fights for money. I am pretty sure fighting Brook in his back yard will make GGG a career high payday. I don't blame him for taking the fight. Almost any boxer in his position would have done the same thing. What better fight was available to him?
