Why did Golovkin take the Brook fight?

This fight does absolutely nothing for him. He'll win and nobody will blink. He doesn't gain a thing.

I'm guessing negotiations with Eubank Jr fell through. Even then, there are still better options if he wants to stay at MW and can't get the belt holders - Andy Lee is a solid, known opponent and a different kind of challenge due to the big height and reach difference along with Andy's heart. Khurtsidze is still a fight hardcore fans would like to see, and once again poses a different challenge due to him being the MW Mike Tyson. There is even a very promising prospect in Maciej Sulecki. ****, I'd even rather see Peter Quillin than this.

He doesn't have the time and fights to waste so I really don't get it.

Credit to Brook for taking it, but for him that's a move that took way more balls than brains.

    Because he isn't a fighter. He's a businessman. He doesn't respect boxing.

I mostly blame his management. K2 cares only about money, not his legacy.
Golovkin also needs to take some heat for being complacent and not demanding better, for the sake of his reputation.

He's got a date in 2 months, his 4th choice just backed out. He's offered at least 2x his career high, and major exposure in a lucrative new market. It's a hard one to pass on

Yep. Sounds like him and Canelo are in the same boat for both dragging up smaller fighters and for letting management have complete control over them.

Because he is a coward, scumbag, piece of s**t businessman.

Ducked Ca$hnelo, Ward, Lara, Eubank, Ramirez, Chavez Jr., and Froch already.

I can see k2's perspective here. They get turned down by Canelo after wasting all year, having to waste time fighting Wade because of the extension Canelo demanded, then they go after Saunders who turns them down, Jacobs says he needs a year and a half, then they think they have a fight with Eubank, work for 3-4 weeks with Eubank/Hearn only for him to not sign. They needed to get something done asap after getting ****ed around for so long by multiple opponents.

They got Brook because they were working with Eddie Hearn for a nearly month straight working on the Eubank fight. All the UK **** is done by Hearn, he got everything in place with Sky Sports, the UK PPV, the revenue, the venue, the international network deals, etc etc. Everything was in place for Golovkin to fight. Eubank wouldn't sign, Hearn offered Brook with the exact same deal to Golovkin and they took it. I can see why given the circumstances.

Vargas had a date too and was going to make 3x his highest payday. Was going to be major exposure for him too in a lucrative market. Also a unification bout that would've immediately catapulted him to the top of the welterweight division. Me personally would rather see that fight because it brings together two belts and the winner would've fought Spence.

I'd rather be talking about who's going to win between Brook and Vargas and how the winner faces one of the best young welterweights in the game but instead we're predicting which round Brook will get ko'd. I guess it's cool if you're a GGG fan but it's not cool if you're a boxing fan.

This isn't the fight Golovkin fans wanted either . The only person who wanted this is Brook apparently. Golovkin fans wanted 1. Canelo 2. Saunders 3. Jacobs 4. Eubank. Pretty sure those are the guys GGG wanted too.

Boxing is ******ed though - Khan ducks Brook. Canelo ducks Golovkin and somehow Khan vs Canelo happens and now Brook vs Golovkin. Should be the other way around.
