Who was he supposed to defend it against at the age of 39 and at the end of his career??

I get it that GGG is getting a lot of unfair stick from certain fans but you don't get to criticise Martinez for fighting Cotto, he took one gimme after pretty much fighting top middleweights one after the other. So piss off calling him a c*nt.

No kidding. Dude was massively ducked at 154 so he jumped up and beat Pavlik's ass then went on a nice run of defenses at 160. He had to wait in line for like 2 years to finally get the jr shot. Basically his entire career was an uphill battle and he always took on the challenge. Only guy he stayed away from was GGG but he was nearing the end of his career and still never got that big payday until the Cotto fight.

Fair enough I guess. I didn't like his entire career, but thought he had several great fights. I especially liked his quick unorthodox hands down boxing style, vs JCC Jr, and obviously the Williams KO. The Cotto fight was IMO just an extremely fired up Cotto vs an injured Martinez. I doubt Cotto would've had any luck at all vs a prime Sergio. Just my 2 cents.

I watched all of his fights, I don't have to like a guy to enjoy fights I'm a boxing fan first and foremost. Paul Williams fights were obviously great and the Chavez fight was good as well as the Pavlik fight. Just never liked the person. I never made that a secret back then either, dude just seemed too fruity for my taste.

It is smart business-wise for Golden Boy to delay this fight. This fight at present would not do the numbers many here seem to think it would. It's a great fight but stretching it out until next fall will increase demand and exposure for Golovkin.

As a fan I want this fight to happen ASAP. But from a business standpoint I completely understand why they're doing what they are.

Anyone who says GGG didn't pay dues, at this point, is comical.

And even years ago, he had won WBA title and had multiple defenses via KO against top 10 ranked opp; Proksa, Macklin, Stevens, Rubio, Geale, Murray and Lemeiux were all legit ranked in the top 10 by ESPN, ring, etc. I'd really like to know what else GGG could have done to pay his dues over past 4-5 years other than fight app 3x per year, app 2x per year v top ten contenders and knock everybody out - to "pay his dues"
