Canelo definitely deserves credit, just don't get ridiculous with it; Mayweather-Pacquiao as the lead in and boxing coverage on both premium channels leaving boxing fans to rally behind all the fights on that night is being greatly discounted here.

Cotto-Alvarez and Alvarez-Khan, after the PPV, have both been replayed on HBO, yet have drawn nowhere near the number that he was able to get with Mayweather-Pacquiao and HBO/Showtime both carrying fight lead-ins for him.

If Saul Alvarez was truly the driving force behind the 2.1m viewer figure, how do you explain his viewership collapsing by half to nearly two thirds? A live fight versus a replay has an effect but giving up that much of the audience is ridiculous.
the fight is a week old sherlock. Explain the drop of 75% from mayweather-pac ppv numbers of 4.6mil to the replay the next week smh

For a basically 10-minute fight to average 2.1m viewers, yet only peak at just UNDER 2.3m viewers, simple logic will tell you that the fight began with a ton of folks having already tuned in.

With the Mayweather-Pacquiao replay averaging about 1.2m viewers for the basically full hour, what would you figure was the peak viewership for Mayweather-Pacquiao; you can't honestly think that Alvarez pushed the viewership from 1.2m to the 2.4m peak in 10 minutes!
so what pushed it that high? lol. of course they tuned in to watch the fight. it prbably was a lot of people who ordered the ppv and didn't want to watch may pac again either.

        • Damn, is boxing making a comeback or what? Hopefully this fight will attract newer fans back to the sport. You couldn't ask for a better scenario if you are fan of the sport. Free prime time network television and including a FOTY candidate too. What more can we boxing fans ask for?

Now, I guess it's safe to say that HBO is on it's way out of business. Even Bob Arum can see that. It's the reason why he's teaming up with Haymon. Their Sports programming is becoming bankrupt.

Unless, they change their current and outdated business model they just won't be able to compete with the PBC. Especially, in light of the fighters demanding higher purses than usual and are getting them by none other than Al Haymon.

You don't read so good, do you?

Here's a picture; might be easier for you to comprehend.

See the "10-11 pm" on the left in the same row as the 2.402 million viewers? That means the 2.402 million average is for 10 - 11 pm, not 10-11:27 pm.

            • Final numbers are out, the entire show averaged 2.415M. #4 PBC show ever after Thurman-Guerrero, Garcia-Peterson, and Garcia-Guerrero.

                  Wrong again.

The chart I posted was for the overnight numbers. In the upper left, it very clearly says "Preliminary Broadcast Nationals." PRELIMINARY. That means "overnight," not the updated numbers from today.

Take a look at the full link: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/article...6-25-2016.html

See the date in the upper right? "June 26, 2016" - which means those are the OVERNIGHT ratings from June 25.

See that line at the bottom? "CABLE RATINGS: Come back early Tuesday for detailed demographic ratings for top cable programs from this day." That means these are the preliminary numbers.

                  • the best thing about the fight is that it was free. not as great as I was led to believe. Porter has bad style of punching wide wild shots inaccurate but he always tries to win cept the last 2 rounds. Thurman is just above average and porter is the easiest good WW to beat

Not they WERE NOT and no need to lie. Showbuzz updates the original overnight link for Sat night ratings on tuesday when the final numbers come in dumb azzz. The numbers quoted in this article and provided by Showtime were were the overnight ratings. They literally updated it this morning like they do EVERY tuesday when the final numbers and cable ratings come in. The entire show did an over night 2.12m. It's now bumped up to 2.4m.
