Canelo never even offered Golovkin a catchweight.

He wanted more interim fights and when GGG refused to agree to that, Canelo walked. Or ran, to be more accurate.

Of course he did he said I will fight him right now but it will be AT MY WEIGHT said it after the Cotto fight. Then ****** GGG and his camp went on and did numerous interviews flat out saying they will never fight Canelo at a catchweight. That killed the fight and Canelo said ok you idiots want to pretend like I have to fight at 160 and call me a middleweight? OK will dump this belt in the trash and prove to you idiots I'm a 154 fighter. Now he has all the leverage there is no belt mandating 160 it's now simply 2 fighters separated by weight.

He was already the unanimous number 1 ranked 154 fighter in the world UNTIL he decided to fight Cotto. After that fight he lost his number 1 ranking because he won the lineal title for 160. So the moment he beats Smith and wins the strap at 154 he will automatically retain his number 1 ranking at 154 and rightfully so since he beat lara and has better wins then anybody else at 154 currently. This completely back fired on GGG.

No one will buy Canelo v. Liam Smith on PPV. 1st, it's a terrible boxing match; 2nd, fans now know that supporting these fights encourage fighters to not fight the top opponents.
What more could GGG have done? Martinez ducked him, Cotto ducked him, now Canelo. GGG just wants to fight the best at 160. Anything that thinks otherwise, there's no convincing - bc anyone that complains about GGG's competition the past few years can never name a fighter in the 160 lb weight class that he avoided

If Canelo stuck to his guns with Floyd saying fight me fight but it has to be at my 154lb even though I'm the B side he would of NEVER got the mayweather fight. He had to agree to the bigger fighter's demands and fight at a weight that was in Floyd's favor. Canelo did it and got the fight with Floyd but had to sacrifice weight and do it at Floyd's catchweight demand. GGG who isn't even the star Canelo was when he fought Floyd chose to do the opposite and have his joke team around him bark weight demands and it 100% backfired in his face. Canelo has no reason to move up to 160 for the first time in his career just because this idiot GGG says so, especially when that chump in the B side and never moved up in weight his damn self and is yelling at Ward about catchweights because "I'm the A side". But now he's too good for a catchweight?

This called Karma and having dumb azz people managing your career. No way if GGG is the top fighter for Top Rank, Golden Boy, Haymon ect they would of let this happen. oh man. canelo letting us down. liam smith is not that popular in the states. but i guess a paper champ in the uk. decent record but has he ever fought in the states. i dont think so. i only seen one highlight from youtube and doesnt look like he has fought anyone worthy.
canelo at 154. i dont think he can make the weight. probably give smith 150k to come in heavy. man getting hard to defend canelo with fights like this. disappointed in my hero.
