How viable is the PBC model?

(If there's a post somewhere that has the information consolidated, a link to it would be appreciated)

Tuned in for Fonfara-Smith and, as has been the case for a while now, the vast majority of the in-between-the-rounds spots seem to be selling through, the event sponsorships beyond Corona (Vivid Seats and Mobile Strike tonight) are coming through, the venues have been better positioned to sell tickets, and the ratings aren't bad either.

How big the business could be is still in doubt, but folks who deny that there's a business there are deluding themselves.

Essentially, I think it's weakness stems from the fact PBC doesn't encompass the best fighters in the world so match making is horrid. It gives fans the false perception of the boxing landscape from a personnel perspective.

The idea in essence was great, just poorly executed. The card of late have STANK, and their on regular cable..

And who exactly is tuning in for that barn burner in Fonfara vs Smith Jr? lol.....

The model could work but they were all over the place to start off, too many different networks, not enough advertisement of the schedule, lackluster cards...

I'd be very surprised if any networks bought the rights after the time buys are up. The ratings stink honestly. boxing is just a niche sport nowadays, we are not getting any new fans, UFC has that market cornered.

It's unfortunate but showtime and HBO will still buy fights and who knows maybe Al Haymon could put together his own PPV boxing channel for like $9.99 a month or something and air all the fights on there. Doubtful but you never know.

One negative is that PBC took ESPN Friday Night Fights away from us and failed to replace it with steady, regular programming.

That was destination viewing for the hardcore fans and we always knew when and where to tune in.

It's been hell to keep up with when PBC fights are scheduled. Too many shows on random dates on random networks.

Buying network airtime then putting on crap like Fonfara vs Smith? Can't imagine there's long term success in that

PBC could be the perfect platform for 2nd tier fighters to get to the next level, but no one is interested in crap mismatches. A respectable loss in a 50/50 fight on a major network could do more for a fighter than beating Joe Smith Jr

It's fair to say what the pros and cons have been so far, though.

PBC is trying to build a brand.

That brand has gotten no where. It's impossible to see how this can work. At least not at the level they hoped.

Just look at the difference in cards this year compared to last. All the stars are back on Showtime to save $. There use to be 2-3 PBC cards a week.

Now it seems like 1 or 2 a month, not counting the Fox Sports 1 card that no one but me watches. And even I stopped watching that. The fox sports cards are honestly the only good thing PBC has done business wise and entertaining wise.

PBC burned up so much damn money they don't even use there stage anymore!
