but you don't even mention him? rakim literally sounded like a GOD speaking to you through a rap song. metaphors, double entendres, word play, off the roof. but you don't even mention the guy?

who made it look this effortless. almost like a god speaking to u? no one......and he did this which each and every song.

I don't mention Rakim because it's a given. I also didn't mention Nas because that's a given. I mention the ones who don't normally get put in the discussion for top lyricists. You mention Rakim but you don't Melle Mel or Kool Mo Dee who influenced Rakim. Or you don't mention Kool G Rap who influenced Nas more so than Rakim did. If you want to go down the rabbit hole we can. That's why I say it's impossible to make these list and my list depends on my mood at the time I'm making the list.

      Preach, bruh.

90s Hip-Hop all day. I used to listen to "Jack Frost" by Ras Kass over and over and over.

      Dude was just straight ill.
I don't know how old he is so I threw Ras Kass out there like a jab as a range finder to see where he was at and he responded with all East Coast lyricists. So I'm not even gonna bother bringing up West Coast lyricists like Del tha funky ****sapien, souls of mischief, crooked I, Hieroglyphics.....

you didn't mention rakim because it was a given? LOL ok bro.

Melle Mel wasn't lyrical. he was more of a party starter. top top tier performer & had decent flow.......but a lyricist he was not. Kool Mo Dee was a great battle rapper but never used one metaphor. actually big daddy kane was way better then both lyrically......

we are only talking lyrics here. as for example "canibus" is better lyrically then ras kas mellie mel and mo dee put together. but all 3 are better in other areas.

        come on dude.........

Melle Mel wasn't a lyricists? Are you serious? Wasn't nobody spitting lyrics like him at the that time. It's kinda hard for me to take you serious. I was alive during that time. I remember first hearing rap on the radio and was blown away. But theres only been a couple times I heard something that I knew was way different than anything I've heard before and that was Melle Mel on The Message

LL Cool J-I need Love. A rap slow jam? Nobody was doing that

          NWA

          Rakim

          Herbie Han****

          Biggie

          Geto Boys

This is my opinion, somebody who remembers hearing the first time rap was played on the radio. Not some 28 year old hipster writing for Spin magazine. When I heard these songs/artists I hadn't heard anything like them before.

            It doesn't matter.

What REALLY matters: WADA is useless.

when these guys come out you don't care......even paul wall had one of the best albums to come out in the last 10 freaking years. but no one cared. you don't download or give a ****.

but when u hear "panda" thats when the complaining starts.........i bought slab god 3 times. instead of complaining support. dude had one of the bset albums in the last 10 years.

Curren$y "jetlife" that had some of the best flow and beats. was not supported. his song "mary" had one of the best beats ever heard on a hip hop track dude. it literally turned your car into a batmobile. straight fire. no one cared or supported.

Currencys run in 2010-2011 was absolutely insane with Pilot Talk 1&2, Weekend at Bernies, Verda Terrace & Covert Coup but IMO he's fallen off since he left Dame and went to a major its been a slow decline to the point I'm not even looking forward to his sh.it anymore and Trademark & Roddy don't seem to be with him anymore which sucks because they were fire as well.

I can go back and listen to Ras Kass Soul on Ice and remember where i was at my life in 1996 and he's in my top 5. Or I can go listen to Pun and swear up and down nobody can touch his lyrical flow. But then I'm feeling a certain way and listen to the Roots and can't nobody tell me Black Thought aint the most well rounded MC of all time but then Andre 3000 comes on and I'm changing my mind again. I can never narrow it down to my top 3 lyricist. I probably can't even narrow it down to top 10. But Biggie will always be #1 on my list and Pac wouldn't make the top 10. But if I'm doing best rappers of all time I got Pac #1 and LL Cool J ahead of Biggie. I don't bother with making list or trying to narrow it down I just enjoy the music now

And I respect all music. I can listen to something I don't like but respect the creativity behind it. But that **** you played and the other guy played has no creativity behind it at all. That's why I called it ****** rap

Not sure what music has to do with boxing...but just FYI...

If you want to hear "a story" from your rapper? Biggie/Pac. Nobody told a story better. Especially Big.

If we're talking about skill in rapping...just straight raw talent?

LL Cool J. Big Punisher. Nas. Keith Murray. Black Rob. Juvenile. G-Dep.
                  Redman. Ol' Dirty. Busta Rhymes.

                  Speaking of Black Rob...starting @4.52. That's when I knew Diddy F'd up.

But uh, today's rappers? Put it this way...

90's Foxy Brown flowed better than any of the new cats I've heard.

I bought Black Rob's tape. My cousin thought he was wack but I kep telling him the dude was cold. I had heard Rob on a couple mixtapes. Remember the real mixtapes that actually came on a cassette tape?

The reason I say LL is because he's been in the game since he was 16 and has always delivered quality music. I really can't think of a bad LL album, even his later stuff was good. It's hard to stay at the top of any profession that long. That's why I always give LL his props.
