I agree with Ali's stance on not fighting another man's war. But it wasn't any more the white man's war than it was the black man's war unless you believe black people are not true Americans.

Some people have issue with the way Ali treated Joe Frazier calling him names like "the gorilla". Frazier hated Ali for a long time too but eventually he softened his attitude and him and Ali were able to become friendly.

I like the way Ali matured. He became a better man. Ultimately he was a good man with a quick mind and it was a pleasure watching him. I don't have a problem with people pointing out his faults but it's unfair to demonize him. Most people give him an disproportionate amount of love and hero worship, so I'm not worried about him getting a tiny bit of hate. History will remember him very kindly.

I've seen a few classless ******s on twitter talking **** about him, especially that tramp Piers Morgan
He is/was human just like us....said some harmful things, even did some. People dont understand this man influenced and was a hero for billions of people because he stood by his principles.

I got nothing for respect for that.....he lost his best years as an athlete being a man

i dont know many people who would do that

They look down, we get looked on. In the ring, however, it's all black and the racists can't stand the embarassment of Ali, a black man who is even ******, being considered the best boxer ever.

For some reason, white people in America just can't box, unlike the European white people such as the Klitschkos, Calzaghe and Froch. For that reason, it probably gave them some kind of inferiorty complex to see Ali shine.
and its not just black people who looked up to him....it was anyone who was oppressed, anyone who was made a refuge in their homeland, anyone who was persecuted because of their religion or skin color.

I was born in the 80s so I knew more of what he did as a man more than his boxing exploits. Thank god for espn classic and sugar rays hit parade. He was literally a heavyweight roy jones and I dont think we'll ever see a heavyweight as talented as 1960s ali in his mid 20s

yea...he was an easy target to hate back then...Young,non-christian, black, wealthy, brash, intelligent, and stood by his principles

people didnt soften their feelings on the man until he was relatively a mute

if he was as vocal in old age as he was as a youth, he wouldnt have been as beloved as he is now.

Most people like him dont get the love until they are in the ground.

imo he was a product of his time.....how would you feel if you can fight in the army and represent your country in the olympics but you cant eat where you want, live where you want, get beaten up by police or possibly lynched for dating or looking at a white woman....the world was ****ed up then and not much has changed. you could be outwardly a bigot then, it was acceptable

OP is an attention whore. Everyone has been praising Ali nonstop, as we should. He probably read one or two posts buried in a 50 page thread where someone said something negative.

Maybe people hate him because he was a draft dodger, a d*ck to a lot of people, & the fact that he called Frazier an Uncle Tom...

Reasons I could come up with. Nobody "came out"
He wasn't in the news, that's why nobody bothered to just randomly hate on the guy.

Not everyone, but the overwhelming majority. there have been a couple. Listening to Sports radio I would say its been 90/10, positive with the 10% being mostly mad at him for not going to Vietnam.
