I used to read his stuff all the time until twitter and this site stepped up their game reporting breaking stories.

I also don't like how he engages in twitter wars with fighters, but it's nice to see guys in the media call people out.
    Pretty much agree with this.

Anyway, I have no idea as to whether he has the makings of a good writer as he is probably hamstrung by the requirement to churn out click-bait and not detailed analysis

One thing I will say in his favour is that whilst his shameless cheer-leading of the Canelo-Khan fight was absolutely cringe-worthy, at least he has somewhat redeemed himself by sticking the boot into GBP over the Canelo-GGG affair

Prior to that, it would've been a pretty safe bet to wager that he'd be happy to help Oscar change into his fishnets

I don't think he's really all that biased. I am sure there a bits of bias in his writing if you're looking for it, but boxing fans are insanely biased as well. If anything remotely positive is written about someone you don't like, or something bad about who they do like, most boxing fans are gonna cry like there is sand in their vagina.

Plus, most of his opinions/lack of professionalism comes when he is in on Twitter or in his chats, which are social media, not his actual writing for ESPN. Pretty much every writer expresses their opinions in those forums, which is what they are there for.

I get that maybe writers do themselves a disservice by being so opinionated on social media, but welcome to journalism in 2016.

Yeah Dan can write but to me the opinins in it is what to me makes me lack respect for him. As far as Ellie it just shows hard work trumps talent because while I don't like him and find myself watching less of his channel, that *** works his @ss off. I think it was after the Mayweather / Maidana fight and the next day he literally had like 50 vids and like 10 hrs worth of behind the scene footage and a bunch of interviews. He works

Dude you give some of the best takes on this site I'm sure if you put 10% of the hustle in that Ellie does you could make it work. Im right there with you & Ellie not knowing when To use then & than. But I don't think that really means much in boxing. Sh.it I wouldn't doubt if boxing fans have a lower literacy rate than the Grade 1s in Somalia.
I don't consider Ellie a journalist. I don't consider any of those youtube channels journalist. They're just fans who love the sport and found a way to bring attention to it when the main stream media ignored it. Ellie, Dontae, Ego, Fighthype, FightHub, ThaBoxingVoice, etc I got much respect for those operations. When ESPN, NYTimes, USA Today, Washington Post, LA Times, and other major media said **** boxing, those fans picked up a camera and covered the sport they love. None of them went to journalism school. They didn't set out to make money doing it. They filled a void. I may not agree with them, you may not either, but you gotta respect them for trying to keep the sport alive when the major media was ignoring boxing.

Great Post, Get what your saying and that's one thing about boxing that I think is wicked is that once it became such a niche sport and with social media there became opportunities for fans to become the reporters with just a camera who cover the sport out of geniune love

I do consider them journalists though . Once you cross over from dude in his basement talking in front of his computer about boxing to dude getting media credentials going to fights & interviewing the people in the sport your a reporter what they choose to do with that and how they represent themselves is up to them. But For me Marcus V / Radio Raheem of Fighthub & Kugan of IFilm are some of the best in the game

I much prefer Jake Donovan (of this site) to Dan. Jake writes mostly objective and interesting pieces-- in an eloquent, usually error free way.

I never read Dan, unless he's on Twitter arguing with a fighter or fan!
