  • Comments Thread For: Fortune To Golovkin: Don't Fight a Smaller F***ing Guy - Move Up!

Top strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune, who helps Freddie Roach prepare fighters such as Manny Pacquiao, Viktor Postol, Miguel Cotto, Denis Lebedev and numerous others, believes Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) should move up in weight to pursue bigger challenges.

Canelo isn't a smaller guy. He just goes out of his way to cut more weight so he can avoid the MW division. And I think it shows. He would be a better fighter if he wasn't so concerned with boiling down to Canyellow weight.

Also, this is what I've been saying about a Lara fight. It might look good on paper, but people will still shít on him for fighting a smaller guy.

But will Ramirez, Jack, or Degale really improve his resume in the eyes of casual fans?

Is Ward really the only fight with which he can prove himself?

Says a lot about Golovkin, if you ask me..

GGG next career move would be critical. Who else is at 160 apart from BJS? He doesn't want to fight Lara, Eubank is too green and wouldn't get any credit beating him. He has to offer the world to be able to collect BJS belt, so either stay at 160 hoping Canelo comes there, stay at 160 and fight mandos and voluntary defences or move up to 168 where he would have better high profile names (Jack badou, Degale, Ramirez, Bute , Groves) etc lurking around. Hope he chooses well as he isnt getting any younger.

Does Fortune realize that Canelo actually comes into the ring heavier than GGG, at around 180?

...or that Canelo just fought a welterweight?

Yet Fortune would be ok with Canelo fighting Pacquaio...go figure. Top Rank is trying to get that Ramirez fight made by any means it seems.

"Triple G needs Canelo, Canelo doesn't need Triple G. Triple G needs to be a pay-per-view fighter. Canelo is a pay-per-view fighter. Canelo is a 154-pounder, naturally. He just fought Cotto and won that 160 belt, but he's a 154-pounder. You're Triple G, don't fight a smaller f***ing guy, go up and fight a super middleweight, fight a light heavyweight - for Christ's sake go up and prove yourself like they've done throughout history," Fortune told BoxingScene.com.

Well said Mr. Fortune! Well said! On another note:

Liam Smith ready for Predrag Radosevic, says he's been offered Canelo Alvarez fight

              By Wil Esco

              June 2, 2016:

Smith then goes on to reveal that he's received an offer to face Canelo Alvarez, a fight that would have him put his belt on the line against the popular Mexican fighter who recently conceded his WBC middleweight title to Gennady Golovkin.

"I've been offered the Canelo fight but I haven't been told too much about it," he said. "It would be for my title because he has given up his (WBC) belt at 160 and would be moving back down to 154 pounds.

"My team is keeping things quiet right now because it's important that my mind is on the job that's in front of me. I don't like talking about future fights and we're just being professional."

Obviously Smith being offered a Canelo Alvarez fight is even more evidence that the much anticipated fight between Canelo and Gennady Golovkin is no closer to being realized, and that it pretty clearly won't be happening next at the very least.

Oscar: "That's great Justin ... the money will be in your account by this afternoon"

A pile of steaming crap from a cynical PED peddling ****. Where was he when Ward was bragging about calling out a man in lower division?

If he can cut the weight and feels more comfortable then he's probably not going out of his way to cut the weight.

To another point Jack, DeGale and the Dirrell's would be good and I honestly think all four beat him.
