If Canelo did that Lil G name would only associated with knocking down tin cans and ducking Ward. This helped Lil G career, right? Now he has a Canelo fight in his horizon. Worked out for him.

Whatever makes you sleep better at night. Same thing would have happened then, he just wouldnt have lost quite as much respect that way. But he still would have had to fight Ggg to fix his respect deficit

The other thing conveniently ignored by Canelo's supporters is that the 15-day "artificial deadline" is not set in stone and if anybody thinks that Sulaiman would not have granted an extension then I have an iceberg to sell them

GBP never wanted this fight in September and nothing that either Oscar (Mr Marinate) and BHop (GGG should move up and fight Kovelev) have said suggests otherwise.

What we are seeing is simply the result of a monumental PR ****up on their behalf

It's confusing because the old WBC rules are still on line. If you do a search for "WBC title purse split champion vs interim champion" it's the old version of the rules that comes up.

This is a link to the rules they have at their website now. If you check them out, it doesn't say anything about champion vs interim champion any more. It just gives one split after a purse bid: 10% to the winner of the fight and the remaining 90% split 70/30. It also says the WBC can change that split if they want to.

So basically, if Canelo/GGG went to a purse bid, the split would be whatever the WBC decided was fair.

Seems like they never even considered the possibility that Golovkin wasn't bluffing when he told them he was going to insist on fighting this Sept, at 160.

You should NEVER call a man's bluff unless you are prepared to deal with the consequences if it turns out that he isn't bluffing after all.
