Why do people think that Mayweather doesn't have any power?

That's very true about leaving himself openIf he pressed for knockouts he would also leave himself open to get knocked out. Floyd doesn't tuck his chin when he throws shots watch when he threw combos his chin is always in the air he doesnt have much head movement just a pull back thats all, he doesn't bob and weave and relies mainly on shoulder slipping and pulling back from shots. Floyd would be ****** to fight out of his gameplan, he is the only fighter who has been consistent in fighting his style safety first. Why break it and risk getting knocked out?Comment

It's really not. Floyd tucks his chin very well and protects himself when in punching range. A lot of the time, Floyd will stick out his chin just to cause the opponent to want to open up so he can come back with a counter.Comment

No, the general notion that the more you throw/press for a KO gives an opponent openings is true.Comment

I completely get it. But I just highlighted that not knocking guys out left and right isn't the same as not having a legit KO in 10 years.Comment

He had a decent knockout percentage at Super Featherweight (probably his natural/optimal weight). Brittle hands and moving up in weight so of course he's not going to get as many knockouts.
You could argue Hopkins is the same, how many guys has he knocked out above middleweight? People seem to forget where Floyd started his career. I think he has enough power to keep people honest. Ricky Hatton walked through a power puncher like kostya tszyu but was badly hurt by some of Mayweather shots.Comment

Floyd is a boxer/puncher. Meaning if he settle down on his punches more for power, he'll get more stoppages.
However, he did had decent pop in his punches; Especially earlier in his career in the lower weigh classes, when his hands were less brittle. He threw a lot more more punches then. In addition, he put enough combination punches together to score knockouts.
However, in the advanced stages of career, he has become more reluctant in doing so by letting his hands go. He has become more of a safety first defensive fighter, who doesn't like to take an awful lot of chances or risks in the ring.
Perhaps. it is due to his lack of size, the fact that his hands are degenerating from many years of physical abuse or from the fear of being countered by a punch he doesn't see.
In any case, today he has become a twelve round fighter, with very low punch volume; To the point of potshotting, clinching and moving away from his opponents in order to secure a points victory.Comment
