Comments Thread For: Provodnikov: Golovkin Blows Out Canelo, GGG-Ward is The Fight

Former world champion Ruslan Provodnikov believes WBC/IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight world champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) would demolish Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (47-1-1, 33KOs) if the two of them squared off in the ring.

i don'tt hink ward - golovkin is "the fight" certainly not now.

ward's looking like a LHW. not a huge one, but a LHW. golovkin's strong and punches hard, but he's a very natural middlweight. no issues making weight from what i gather, only puts on 5-10 lbs before the fight, and he's been at MW since he was an amateur.

golovkin - canelo might be more of a wipeout, but at least they're basically the same size, and golovkin's earned the right to find out.

has golovkin earned a shot at a p4p ranked LHW? yes, he's p4p ranked, and the best MW on the planet, but do you really want to see him fight ward or kovalev? i really think that fight is a mismatch. maybe you give golovkin a year to adjust to the new weight class and make improvements, but to me i just see a bigger guy beating a smaller one.

I don't see how this isn't the fight to make. For years posters have asked that undefeated champions they opined "hadn't tested themselves" were asked to go up in weight and fight the best boxer in that class. They asked for this so they could see those guys lose, but pretended they were doing it for boxing reasons only.

Well in GGG we have an actual champion that truly hasn't fought anyone great. That hasn't been all his fault, but it wasn't for any other fighter from the above paragraph either. these same posters have legitimate boxing reasons for this fight to happen but don't want to see it because the guy they like would lose.

I think the ward ggg fight has passed though. Sadly its another fight that fans got cheated out of seeing. Interestingly, certain fans are not as upset as they have been when other fights like this didn't happen.

Agree with Provodnikov, Golovkin vs Canelo wouldn't be competitive.

Golovkin vs Ward is gone, that fight is never happening, they're too far apart in terms of weight now. I think Ward would definitely win that fight though, he's just too big, I would probably slightly favour Ward even if they were the same size, but it would be a 50-50 kinda fight.

Agree. No reason for him to move up to LHW. He's a natural MW. Although he may have to move up if he can't find a MW that is willing to face him

It's a shame Ward ducked GGG and was only available when GGG wasn't... that is to say, years in the future. GGG's people finally called Ward on it by saying come down 4 lbs, split the difference, make it 50-50 toward each guy's weight class. Ward responded by going north. Ward never really wanted it, always ducked the reality.
