Canelo has been fighting at 155 for years, last time I checked 155 is btw 154-160 so IT'S MIDDLEWEIGHT.
Dude rehydrate more than 15 pounds, he should man up and fight Golovkin at 160 OR GO DOWN TO 154 FOR REAL, rehydrate more weight and fight the Charlos or rematch Lara wich will be a hard task as well.

He needs to stop hidding behind his 155 CW, this is THE MOST RIDICULOUS DIVA MOVE I can remember in boxing, Manny of Floyd never fought 5 CATCHWEIGHT FIGHTS IN A ROW.

So Canelo had to drop 2 pounds, B HOP 3 pounds, Nelo is asking GGG to drop 5 POUNDS, that's ridiculous.

Anybody from 154 to 168, yes, but I guess he didn't mean to make 154, you can't fight anybody from at 154 at 160/158/157.

He was OK to try making 154 for Floyd, but Floyd is an ATG and a 147 pounders SO that's a whole different story.

He's not a (white) hope since the guy is twice a world amateur champion and owns three 160 belts: IBF, WBA and now WBC since Nelo vacated.

He's not more a white hope than Wilder or Spence are black hopes for the Larrys of the World.

That white hope sht is irrelevant in 2016.

You guys need to stop with the race cards arguments.

I don't think so, Canelo is a A quality fighter.

Skillwise he can match Golovkin and might probably outskills him.
Ginger Diva outboxed Trout, Cotto and fought a draw with Lara.
Those 3 guys are very good technicians.

Canelo is a counterpuncher wich is probably the style to beat GGG, he's tough and can take hard punch, and has probably enough power to earn GGG's respect unlike the Monore Jr of the world.

You can make a case about Nelo beating GGG.

That being said, GGG is more versatile and has a better ring IQ than people give him credit for, he can adapt and is a freak of nature, wich is why I WANT TO SEE THIS FACKING FIGHT.

Everyone that bags on GGG for a low PPV really isn't paying much attention. It wasn't as if Lemeiux was perceived as a real threat nor did he have the star power of Cotto to add to the bill. Canelo needs a legit opponent to do big numbers too.......his fight with Khan wasn't exactly a smashing success compared to Canelo v Cotto......and he's out of smaller guys with real drawing power so.... to do significant $$, this fight should get made.

If Canelo believes in himself and believes he can beat the MW champion straight up, it doesn't matter who has the belt, just who leaves the ring with it. They just basically avoided the purse split of 55/45......but to do 1 MIL+ buys, Canelo still needs GGG.......unless Floyd or Manny decide to fight him....both of which he'd probably lose although less painfully...

But if he truly stands by his post-fight confidence, they'll get this done around 60/40 at 160......70/30 is too low.....GGG fighting nobody's albeit mandatories, gets the same rankings on HBO as Canelo so assuming GGG has no leverage just isn't correct.......

60/40 for Canelo is fair. It can also be his "official" move to MW......there's value in that even if he gets beat by GGG.

With that split, Canelo will end up with a guarantee around 15 MIL and GGG around 11 MIL plus a part of the ppv......and I think it will be for all three major belts and do around 1.5 MIL buys.......neither can make that kind of purse or those ppv numbers without going at or below 154 AND ONLY IF....Floyd or Pac is interested in Canelo at around 152-154, (neither are interested in GGG.)

Problem is, Floyd won't do HBO and Canelo going after an even smaller guy?? Won't look good.......so realistically, they are still each others best possible opponent.

I think GGG wants the big money fight and will take a 40/60....he might even agree to 158.....but he's not gonna give much more than that.

Canelo should offer exactly that and he could get a rematch clause if he wants one. I believe he thinks he can beat GGG and based on his comments and the good reputation he's building, he really should make this fight happen.....

But if he doesn't fight GGG whatever the reason, he will have to save face with his fans and for his own pride by fighting a real MW at 160.....I'm betting Saunders would be much more interested in fighting Canelo than GGG.....?? Then he'd have that 4th major title GGG wants too...

But if that happens, he still has to fight GGG eventually.....let's be real....the dude is a beast and for real, not hype. If you know boxing you can see that.....and Canelo has too much pride to wait it out too long like Floyd did vs Pac and a fanbase that won't put up with avoiding GGG for long.

I think the fight gets made. I think GGG wins by KO.......but if it's made this year, Canelo won't be hurt by the loss at all because he will hang tough as long as it lasts......no shame in that. Hell....he could win if he can steal a few rounds and steal a decision. He did get one even card vs Floyd and some of his wins were MUCH closer than cards-most think he's gotten away with at least a couple- so judges clearly favor him......

I just believe GGG is better in every category and Canelo surviving, much less winning is not likely.....

Canelo will take a hit if he avoids the fight outright and an even bigger hit if he fights another WW.....

Hope it happens. Hope the move is just to get the business rolling.

But..... If the negotiations are reasonable and Canelo won't take the fight or tries to force 155 after all the **** he talked?? Or even worse, gets another name to move up to his weight?? He'll take a big hit career-wise that he won't fully recover from until he fights GGG.....

So why not now? Canelo "doesn't frock around", right??

This is simple for GGG....if the fight falls apart, Canelo will be the one that looks bad. GGG can try to get Saunders or Jacobs to completely unify.

Eventually GBP and Canelo will figure out they really do need GGG to get the ppv numbers they are looking for. He does have legit opponents at 154 in Lara, Charlo bros, Andrade, etc., but none with anywhere near the buzz of GGG. Plus, they play for Al Haymon. Tough pill for Oscar to swallow especially to split at a max of 300k buys??

Lemieux maybe??........But they still max at 250-300k buys and will lose leverage and the Mexican fans patience the longer they wait......and the worse Canelo will look...

GGG vs Canelo happens. I believe both fighters truly want it to happen. Don't think Canelo is scared.

But if it doesn't happen, at least by 5/2017? Canelo will inherit a nickname his mentor and promoter once had......and by then it will be well deserved. And hard to shake if he doesn't back his tough-guy words and fight GGG.

          "Chicken Canelo" anyone?? Lol.....

I'd prefer GBP "not frock around" and do it this Sept 17.

Great post but I disagree about GGG beating Nelo easely.

Nelo can box, it's not like GGG was a very fast slick spoiler like Lara or Floyd.

He will be more available and Nelo will be able to do his boxing and trade with GGG IMO and should outbox him for some rounds.

After the 6th, I think GGG's power should start to wear down Nelo at some point and stop him by the 11th round.

GGG is "outboxable', in amateur (that's only amateur), Bute was outboxing him as hell, then GGG started to be pissed off and koed Bute with a right hand lol.
The GGG vs Direll fight was a close fight, Direll looked like he was able to outbox GGG but was somehow beaten physically and mentally by GGG.

My point is GGG ain't no Floyd, Rigondeaux or a prime Jones Jr, he's outboxable.
Right now, he looks like he has an iron chin and Roberto Duran's power, but he's fighting at best B fighters, interesting to see how those assets would work against a A fighter like Alvarez.

Saul's and GGG's teams are still negotiating yet everyone is calling it a duck, how???? Both sides are still on going with their talks, it was more or less a move to cut out the bs and not get cornered into splitting the purse in a manner that Saul and his team didn't see fit.

I thought it was all about the belts doe?
Golovkin doesn't want world title belts because he thinks they look nice in his display cabinet, he wants them for the money he can make defending them.

So yeah, if Canelo is saying he still wants the fight, then obviously GGG is going to carry on negotiating with him.

If the purse split is the problem for Canelo, then it would have been better for him to keep hold of his belt, and keep negotiating, right up to the purse bid deadline, and only then relinquish the title, if a deal hadn't been made.

People would have been more sympathetic towards him then, because even Golovkin's biggest fans understand that Canelo should get more than 55% of the purse for this fight.

Just a negotiation maneuver from Golden Boy to get their catch-weight.

I do believe that Canelo isn't afraid of GGG, his pride is very real. But that said- they are clearly steering his ship out of the way of Golovkin's warpath. His team wants no part of this fight at 160 lbs.

Fight isn't happening. They're just running damage control on Canelo's reputation now, working it out so he doesn't look as bad when the fight doesn't come off. I don't think GGG will drop below 160 for Canelo.

How many more fights at 155 will Canelo make I wonder? Does he get a pass to make a career of fighting at his own weight? That REALLY puts a bad taste in my mouth. He needs to cut to 154 and be a Jr. MW or move to 160.

100% my take too. I don't understand how it can even be rationalized that that Canelo's side improved there position by dropping the belt. The only reasoning I can even think would make any sense would be that Canelo's side believes dropping the belt is somehow superior than being stripped of the belt. I don't think it matters why Canelo doesn't have the belt its the fact he doesn't have it & they didn't fight that matters.

GGG can imo say we'll give your 60-40, but it's at 160 ... you can accept or you can be branded a coward who gave up his belt to avoid me.
LOL yea GGG's side seemingly gets more power by having the belt now. If Canelo's side is being irrational with the cuts (remember Oscar said he'd want 70/30 Canelo to make Canelo vs Floyd II recently) & wanted 90/10 Canelo or something how does that position get improved by dropping the belt? Or is GGG's side saying 90/10 or whatever doesn't make sense pre-Canelo dropping the belt, but somehow it does after he drops the belt? That don't seem like something that would be agreed to. And supposedly weight isn't a problem which is a surprise to me.

Nothing really makes sense with what I suspect went on behind the scenes & what lil info is out except that GBP & Canelo has no plans to make this fight &/or feel it isn't makeable with K2's & GGG's expectations $-wise + think dropping the title early makes a statement & that K2's & GGG's (currently unreasonable?) expectations will suddenly drop a month from now vs the 5-6 days they had til the purse bid (which had the nutty 55/45 cut that made no sense for each fighters true value). I just don't see how K2's & GGG's expectations are going to change THAT much here. If GBP is saying 90/10 or 80/20 & K2 is saying 60/40 or 70/30 is THAT much altered by the false deadline being removed? Both guys are going to take **** for this fight not happening by the false deadline or after so not much changed, but I believe dropping a title looks far inferior to fans & makes sure the bulk of the blame goes to Canelo & now without the title his position is weaker. If Canelo were to be made the WBC mandatory now I believe his cut would be 30%(?, not 100% this is correct) if things went to a purse bid vs the 45% in the worse case situation if he's champion lol.

I mean wtf. F#cking boxing man lol. Sometimes I strongly identify with that now infamous MMA guy with Just Bleed written on his stomach with all this ****** ass bs involved with making a fight.

Gennady's team are morons. They claim they want unification. He now has the WBC strap and wants to continue negotiating with GB? You have your belt, now go get Billy's. They were ****** enough to think Saul would budge. If they don't take the CW now, then we know who's doing the ducking.
