Defending his title against Amir Khan, then relinquishing it after opening negotiations with GGG, is just about the worst possible combination of moves he could have made.

The sport is full of casuals. It was obvious GGG was trying to force a money fight with favorable terms because negotiations on even ground means he gets significantly less money.

He blatantly ducked Ward/Lara, and he ducked Mora back in 2013 before Sergio lost to Jacobs.

An ex-champ who has clearly faded is the perfect opponent for an upcoming fighter who is trying to establish himself..... and Golovkin has certainly fought far worse..... they used every excuse in the book to duck Mora, just like they did with Ward and Lara.

He shouldn't do it. GGG should stick firmer than ever to 160 or nothing. Because canelo has now vacated there is one way and one way only that the negotiations will now be viewed if the fight doesn't happen (no matter what is said hence forth) i.e. Canelo ducked and vacated his title to avoid the fight. Canelo's rep will be ruined if the fight doesn't happen now. And that WILL hurt him in the box office going forward. Canelo is not floyd, fans aren't going to tune in just in the hope to see him lose ... they have already seen it ... he needs fans cheering him.
