Dying? Absolutely, but not dead yet. Anyone who doesn't agree should at least see that it's in a steep decline.

It's the lack of inside fighting, that's the biggest issue I see

You make a valid point. Many up and coming American fighters really do seem to fight to survive, rather than to actually win. Alot of excessive clinching, headbutting and just flat out running.

American boxing is dead? Why are boxing fans more dramatic then an elderly latina when she finds out her youngest unmarried grand daughter is pregnant?

Boxing isn't dead, it's just that we're in a rough time right now. Kids 10-20 years ago went into football, basketball, and now we see the results of that. All the great athletes are into football and basketball. Nobody grows up these days watching boxing only. They either watch NFL, NBA or a little bit of MMA. Mainly because that **** is already being shoved up your ass in high school and college. If you're a dude and you're athletic odds are you will probably play football, if you're really tall you'll do basketball, and if you're crazy and not gifted physically you'll do wrestling. Nobody just goes into boxing unless you have a parent push you into it. There aren't a lot of good gyms around either. Boxing can only be seen on PPV and nobody pays 50-60 bucks for a boxing fight. So If you don't have any gyms, if you don't get any coverage of the fights, yeah, people won't give a ****.

The NFL does the right thing, their **** is out there for free for everybody to see, they are very involved with college football, even with 5-10 year olds. Boxing doesn't do ****, they think these studs just magically appear out of nowhere.

The Bigger Division I agree with, US SUCK in the Heavier Divisions like Crusierweight and Heavyweight

Heaven't seen and impressive American Heavyweight Prospect in YEARS. Cam Awesome has a great personality but he is very average in the ring but yes we haven't had a Anthony Joshua or Joseph Parker type of Heavyweight Prospect in a Long Time and as Cruiserweight haven't had a good one since probably Holyfield?

In 1991 the population of the Soviet Union was 293 million.

293 million people, and one of the greatest boxing schools in the world, and they couldn't box professionally. But now they can.

A lot of what we are seeing is intensified competition. The Soviet block countries are learning how to compete in professional boxing year on year. And they are producing more and more good fighters.

This isn't the only reason US boxing has a downward trend, but it's a big part of it. Imagine how good people would think Gary Russell is if he hadn't met Lomachenko? And Danny Jacobs would be touted as the #1 middleweight in the world.

Its all feather-fisted spoilers like not just a few most, if not all.

I'm not trying to bash American boxing, as a fan I am concerned. How do you go from Mike Tyson, Hagler, Holyfield, Bowe & all these beasts to whatever the hell you're producing right now?

All of them fight like they're in survival mode.

Is it todays trainers in America?
I know people will get butthurt over me pointing it out but surely they must see where I am coming from and be concerned because its terrible for the sport.

I think it might come down to finances as well.
Paying certain fighters excessively and others not enough. Never happen but I'd love to see a system in place also in other sports where your pay varies depending on your performances. I don't want to begrudge anybody of a payday but when you've got a great opportunity to raise your stock, you're getting paid well to fight well a nobody you probably should go out and look to make a statement or at least try.

About 5 years back America had the #1 in majority of the 17 divisions. They now have 0.
Bradley, Mayweather, Dawson, Steve Cunningham, Ward, Ortiz was there briefly, I think Rios was elevated when JMM moved up

I really do hope the '08 olympians are for real and are about to flood the world scene.
I've been thinking about this for some time, especially last night.

The fighters now a days are made from a different cloth and I owe that all to Floyd Mayweather.

Everyone wants to take as less risk while getting paid the most amount of money while taking as less damage in the ring.

Guys literally "fight like they're trying to survive in the ring", not because they're fighting to survive, but because they want to get hit the least amount of times and "prolong their career".

I understand their point from a fighter's point of view, but you're killing the sport because no one wants to see that schit. I've heard so many complaints about Mayweather vs DLH and Mayweather vs Pac it's beyond repair.

I try to convince co-workers and gym partners to give boxing another chance, but everyone tells me "**** you". They don't want to see Mayweather dancing around the ring, nor do they want to see fighters like that from the TMT roster and many of boxing's newest generation following his blueprint.

Just like everyone in the NBA can't be Michael Jordan, everyone in boxing can't be Floyd Mayweather.

Back in the 70's, 80's and 90's, we had real fighters. This new generation has a select few that show heart, but in the grand scheme, there are many that are killing boxing.

We need more fighters like GGG, Kovalev, Canelo, Wilder, Joshua, etc... All these other guys that want to follow the Mayweather blueprint should go away. I say that as a fan.

Mayweather made the most money in boxing history, and did great for himself, but in the long run, he was not good for the sport.
