Hype job? He's 25 and already has one of the best resume's of any active fighter today and has fought almost a dozen world champs, literally like 15-20 top 10 ranked fighters fought and beaten multiple first ballot HOFers. Out of all the fighters who deserve the hype job label like fighters who are almost 30 and have not faced a single top 10 ranked fighter or guys who have been knocked out once they faced a top ranked fighter. Canelo keeps winning and is on everybody's top 10 p4p rankings at 25 is a hype job? GTFO you newbie. If I listed the names of hype jobs in boxing I can go 30 deep before I even dream of mentioning Canelo. You can't be a hype job when you have already beaten Mosley, Trout, Angulo, Lara, Kirkland, Cotto and your only loss is to Mayweather.

For example Spence who is super hyped right now is 26 OLDER then Canelo and hasn't faced a single top 10 ranked fighter yet but people are going nuts because he beat Aligeri the guy who Khan just beat and you see canelo laid out Khan. Damn the haters are out in full force

canelo is no hype job, boner. He is a legit strong 154lber. Khan stepped up and did well until he got caught. Much respect to him, but canelo is legit. Lara, angulo, cotto, and many others will tell you otherwise. The kid is real.

Its widely accepted that Canelo's star power outshines his ability in the ring. Its quite perculiar, as I can't remember the last time the biggest star in boxing wasn't part of the very elite. But it is what it is

In 3 of his 4 biggest fights, he was either clearly defeated (Floyd) or was on the fortunate end of a fight which could have gone either way. The fight he won in Cotto, a lot of the rounds were fairly close. I guess his appeal isn't his ability, his fans watch him for his image? I don't get it myself really

Its actually pretty simple. You see, mexico has a caste system.
The more white blood you have, the "better" and "desirable" you are.
The more native you look, the more they hurl racist insults at you. In mexico, its very common to hear people being called "indio" as a racial slur.
In society, if you look like Canelo, you are king. If you look like Mikey Garcia, you're an outcast.

I still get casuals calling me dumb when I tell them Mikey Garcia is a thousand times better fighter than Canelo. They ask me how that is possible, asking me how someone "so ugly" can better, and that hes just an "indio".

Like criollo mexico, Mexico finally found a fighter they can get behind. They don't care how good their team is, they just want it to look a certain way.
