What canelo has on his side is he is still so young, still growing in popularity and is paid less then Floyd meaning you need less PPVs sold to turn a profit. If Canelo and GGG fought next they combined might make less then what Floyd got paid guaranteed to fight Berto, 32m. Yet Canelo/GGG would sell 2-3X the amount of PPVs Floyd's fight just did. That's the problem. Floyd is like that old guy at your job who is great at what he does and been there year after year got raise after raise to the point where it is no longer cost effective for him to stay there. He will either take a paycut or get laid off because you can find someone else that can do a similar job at a fraction of the cost.
Manny already had to take a paycut his last fight and it still lost money. Floyd and Manny can't keep making the money they are used to unless they fight each other or Canelo. The days of them getting paid 25-32mil to fight the Berto's, Aligeri of the world are over. Their PPVs don't warrant that kind of pay anymore.Last edited by bigdunny1; 05-04-2016, 10:55 AM.

Less then 1m PPVs are great numbers for any fighter NOT named Floyd. But when you pay 32m for 1 fighter and still need to pay his opponent and then the rest of the card you need way more then 1m PPVs just to turn a profit. He is simply paid too much compared to the amount of PPVs he draws these days and Manny is in the exact same boat. Either fight a lesser name fighter and take the lion share of the profits but the fight still loses money for the promoter/network that pays for it or you fight another superstar to help get you over 1m and you together share the profits and the fight makes money.Last edited by bigdunny1; 05-04-2016, 11:13 AM.

now these are just some names of "potential" fights that "could" happen.
im not saying those are all bigger names than floyd, i think u misunderstood that.
i meant if GGG fought those guys i've mention by next year and if floyd announces his return after that then yes, GGG would be in a position where he doesnt need to bend over to get a fight with floyd because GGG doesnt really need it anymore.Last edited by WesternChamp; 05-04-2016, 11:22 AM.

Now with the exception of the manny fight he hasn't sold over 1m PPV in 3 years. And if you take away the Canelo fight then it's been 4 years since he did over 1m PPVs. And his last fight did 400k or less PPVs the worst he has seen in a decade. The trend is clearly going down and you already seen the reality that Manny was forced to take a paycut which in retrospect wasn't a big enough paycut because Top Rank lost money. This means either Floyd takes a pay cut or he has to fight Manny or Canelo another superstar to cross the 1m PPV mark. Where as 4 years ago it didn't matter who he fought he could do over 1m PPVs. Those days are clearly gone.

Also, you are forgetting that CBS can pay Floyd $35 mil to fight on their network without batting an eye. NO PPV needed.
I appreciate your passion but just accept the fact that Floyd is much bigger than anyone in the sport and his paydays and purse split percentage will reflect this no matter who he fights.
